Harry & Meghan engagement interview

Harry & Meghan engagement interview

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s engagement interview aired earlier tonight in the UK. My excitement from this morning is definitely back after I was so disappointed with the photocall. I enjoyed this interview.

I have transcribed some of the answers to the questions (I took out many of the filler words since I know people dislike when I include them in my transcripts), although I have not transcribed the entire 20-minute interview.

When and how did Harry propose?
Harry: “It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month here at our cottage. Just a standard, typical night for us.”

Meghan: “Just a cozy night. What were we doing, just roasting chicken and having a [laughs].”

Harry: “Roasting a chicken. Trying to roast a chicken.”

Meghan: “Trying to roast a chicken, and it just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”

Harry: “Of course.”

How long were they together before the engagement?
Meghan: “Oh, it would be a year and a half, two, a little bit more than that.”

Harry: “Just about a year and a half, yeah.”

What it a whirlwind?
Meghan: “I don’t think that I would call it a whirlwind in terms of our relationship, obviously there have been layers attached to how public it has become after we had a good five, six months almost of just privacy which was amazing. But no, I think we were able to really have so much time just to connect, and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other, even though we were obviously doing a long distance relationship, so it’s, um, we made it work.”

How did they first meet?
Harry: “Ah, yes, we first met, we were introduced, actually, by a mutual friend who, um, we will…”

Meghan: “We should protect her privacy.”

Harry: “Protect her privacy, yeah. And um, but, it was literally through her, and we met once and then twice, back to back, two dates. In London last July – beginning of July – and then it was I think about three maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana, and we camped out with each other under the stars, and we, she came and joined me for five days out there which was absolutely fantastic. So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial for me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other.”

Did the friend intentionally set them up? Meghan talks about not knowing much about Harry before meeting him.
Megan: “Yes, it was definitely a set up; it was a blind date. And it’s so interesting because we talk about it now and even then, you know, because I’m from the States you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the Royal Family and so, while I now understand very clearly there’s a global interest there, I didn’t know much about him, and so the only thing I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, I had one question, I said ‘well is he nice?’ ‘Cause if he wasn’t kind it just didn’t seem like it would make sense, and so we went and had a, met for a drink and then, I think, very quickly into that we said ‘well what are we doing tomorrow, we should meet again’.”

Harry: “What are we doing tomorrow; we should meet again. And then it was, like, right diaries. We need to get the diaries out and find out how we’re going to make this work, because I was off to Africa for a month, she was working, and we just said ‘right where’s the gap’, and the gap happened to be in the perfect place.”

Did Harry know about Meghan beforehand?
Harry: “No, I’d never even heard about her until this friend said ‘Meghan Markle’, I was like ‘right, okay, give me a bit of background, like what’s going on here’. So no I’d never watched Suits, I’d never heard of Meghan before, and I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her, and there she was sitting there, I was like ‘okay, well I’m going to have to up my game’ [laughs] if I’m going to sit down and make sure I’ve got good chat.”

Meghan: “I think for both of us, though, it was really refreshing because, given that I didn’t know a lot about him, everything I’ve learned about him I learned through him as opposed to having grown up around different news stories or tabloids or whatever else. Everything I learned about him and his family was what he would share with me and vice versa. So for both of us it was just a really authentic and organic way to get to know each other.”

On making a long distance relationship work.
Meghan: “It was just a choice, right, I think that very early on, when we realized we were going to commit to each other, that we knew we had to invest in the time and the energy and whatever it took to make that happen. And, um, so yes, with the filming schedule, [laughs] it was not the easiest, because it of course included a lot of travel. Back and forth, but.”

Harry: “I don’t think you had any idea what time zone you’d be[long] for the last year and a half.”

Meghan: “No.” [laughs]

Harry: “Coming over here four days or a week, and then going back and then straight into filming the next day. 4 A.M. wake calls, on a Monday, straight into set, you know.”

Meghan: “Right off the plane and straight to set. Just coming back into it again.”

Harry: “And just trying to, just trying to stay as close as possible. But, you know, on two different time zones. And five hours apart does have its challenges. But, but you know, we made it work, and now we’re here. So, we’re thrilled.”

How much did Meghan know what she was getting into by dating a prince?
Meghan: “I think I can very safely say, as naive as it sounds now, having gone through this learning curve in the past year and a half I did not have any understanding of just what it would be like. I don’t think either of us did, though, we both said that, even though we knew that it would be.”

Harry: “No, I tried to warn you as much as possible but I think both of us were totally surprised by the reaction after the first five, six months where we had to ourselves of what actually happened from then. So I think you can you can have as many conversations as you want and try and prepare as much as possible, but we were we were totally unprepared for what happened after that.”

The scrutiny.
Meghan: “I mean, I think also because there’s a misconception that because I have worked in the entertainment industry that this would be something I would be familiar with, but even though I’ve been on my show for, I guess six years at that point, and working before that I’ve never been part of tabloid culture, I’ve never been in pop culture to that degree, and lived relatively quiet life even though I focused so much on my job. So that was a really stark difference out of the gate. But, and I think we were just hit so hard at the beginning with a lot of mistruths that I made the choice to not read anything. Positive or negative. It just didn’t make sense and instead we focused all of our energies just on nurturing our relationship.”

Harry: “On us, yeah.”

Meghan: “On us.”

Some of the scrutiny was about Meghan’s ethnicity.
Meghan: “Of course, it’s disheartening. You know it’s, it’s a shame that that is the climate in this world to focus that much on that or that that would be discriminatory in that sense, but I think, you know, at the end of the day I’m really just proud of who I am and where I come from, and we have never put any focus on that. We’ve just focused on who we are as a couple. And so when you take all those extra layers away and all of that noise, I think it makes it really easy to just enjoy being together and tune all the rest of that out.”

On representing something new for the royal family.
Harry: “I don’t know if it’s something new. For me, it’s an added member of the family. It’s another team player as part of the bigger team and, you know, for all of us, what we want to do is be able to carry out the right engagements, carry out our work and try and encourage others in the younger generation to be able to see the world in the correct sense rather than perhaps being just having a distorted view. So you know, the fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was a sort of confirmation to me that everything, all the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect. It was this beautiful woman just sort of literally just tripped and fell into my life; I fell into her life. The fact that she, I know the fact that she’ll be really unbelievably good at the job part of it as well is almost is a huge relief to me because she’ll be able to deal with everything else that comes with it. But, no, we’re a fantastic team – we know we are – and, we hope to, over time, try and have as much impact for all the things that we care about as much as possible.”

Meghan: “I am very excited about that, yeah.”

What does Meghan want to do with her platform?
Meghan: “I think what’s been really exciting as we talk about the transition of this, out of my career but into the role, is that as you said the causes that have been very important to me, I can focus even more energy on. Because very early out of the gate I think you realize once you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen to with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously. And at the same time I think in these beginning few months and now being boots on the ground in the U.K. I’m excited to just really get to know more about the different communities here, smaller organizations we’re working on the same causes that I’ve always been passionate about under this umbrella. And also being able to go around the Commonwealth I think is just just the beginning of that.”

Harry: “There’s a lot to do, there’s a lot to do.”

Getting a new country, giving up her career.
Meghan: “Yes, but I don’t see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change.”

Harry: “It’s a new challenge.”

Meghan: “It’s a new chapter. Right. And also keep in mind I been working on my show for seven years. So we’re very, very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series and for me, once we hit the 100 episode marker, I thought you know what I have I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work I’ve done there and now it’s time to, as you said work, work as a team with you.”

Harry on the responsibility of asking Meghan to take on the challenge of a royal role.
Harry: “That sense of responsibility was was essentially from day one, or maybe a couple of months in, when I suddenly realized actually, this is, you know, I feel I know that I’m in love with this girl. And I hope that she is in love with me. We still have to sit down on the soda and I still have to have some pretty frank conversations with her to say, you know what you’re letting yourself in for it is, it’s a big deal and it’s not easy for anybody. But I know that at the end of the day, she chooses me and I choose her. And therefore whatever we have to tackle together or individually, will always be us together as a team. So I think, I think she’s capable.”

Meghan: “So nicely said, isn’t it?”

Harry: “She’s capable of anything. And together, as I said, there’s a hell of a lot of stuff, work that needs doing. At the moment for us, it’s going to be making sure that our relationship is always put first, but both of us have passions for wanting to make change, change for good. And with lots of young people running around the Commonwealth, that’s where we’ll spend most of our time hopefully.”

Meghan: “And it was really one of the first things we connected on, it was one of the first things we started talking about when we met was just the different things that we wanted to do in the world and how passionate we were about seeing change. I think that was, that’s what got date two [laughs], in the books probably.”

Harry: “Plenty to talk about.”

Children?
Harry: “Not, not currently no. No, of course, you know. I think one step at a time, and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”

Have they met each other’s families?
Meghan: “Yes. His family’s been so welcoming and…”

Harry: “You’ve met quite a few of them actually.”

Meghan: “I have! On both sides of his family, his mom’s side as well which has been really important to me, too. But yes the family has been great, and over the past year and a half we’ve just had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me feel a part of not just the institution but also part of the family, which has been really special.”

Has Meghan met the Queen and what was that like?
Meghan: “I have, yes.”

Harry: “A couple of times.”

Meghan: “Yes, true, a couple of times. […] It’s incredible, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother. All of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her. And we’ve had a really, she’s an incredible woman.”

Harry: “And the corgis took to you straight away.”

Meghan: “That’s true.”

Harry: “I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing.”

Meghan: “Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.”

Harry: “Just wagging tails and I was just like ‘Ugh.'”

What was it like for Harry to introduce Meghan to his father and brother?
Harry: “What was it like? It was exciting I mean I’ve, I’d been seeing her for a period of time when I literally didn’t tell anybody at all. And then William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine, so being our neighbors we managed to get that in a couple of, well quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely…”

Meghan: “She’s been wonderful.”

Harry: “…amazing, as has William as well, you know, fantastic support. And then my father as well, we had a couple of, no more than that…”

Meghan: “We’ve had…”

Harry: “…a handful of teas and meetings and all sorts of gatherings over at his place as well. So no the family together have been absolutely solid support, and my grandparents as well have been wonderful throughout this whole process and they’ve known for quite some time. So how they haven’t told anybody is, again, a miracle in itself. Now the whole family have come together and have been a huge amount of support.”

Meghan: “They’ve been amazing.”

The ring.
Harry: “The ring is, obviously, yellow gold because that’s what, her favorite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together. And…”

Meghan: “It’s beautiful, and he designed it, it’s incredible.”

Harry: “Yeah, make sure it stays on that finger [laughs]”

Meghan: “Of course. [laughs]”

What does it mean to Meghan to have stones that belonged to Princess Diana?
Meghan: “I think everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness is, and the inclusion of that and, obviously, not being able to meet his mom it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us. And I think in being able to meet his aunts and also, like, Julia and just different people who were so important to his mom, I’m able to, in some way, know a part of her through them and of course through him. And it’s incredibly special. And to be able to have this which sort of links where you come from and Botswana which is important to us and it’s perfect.”

What Diana would have though of Meghan.
Harry: “Oh they’d be thick as thieves, without question, I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know, so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends with Meghan. So no it’s days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But with the ring and with everything else that’s going on I’m sure she’s…”

Meghan: “She’s with us.”

Harry: “I’m sure she’s with us yeah, you know, jumping up and down somewhere else.”

There is more in the interview that I didn’t include, which you can watch in the video.

My first thought is that I am very happy that they opened up and actually told us how they met – where, when – because the constant press back and forth for the last year was ridiculous, so I’m glad that they put that to bed. They also cleared up some other press rumors, like who introduced them (they didn’t say a name, but said ‘She’ rather than the man the press said introduced them), and whether Harry knew of Meghan before meeting her (the press said he liked her in Suits and wanted to meet her because of that). They were more open in this interview than I thought they would be, which I like very much – I want to connect with them as a couple, which is why I was disappointed with the photocall, but I am very happy with this interview.

I like that they kept so much eye contact and kept looking at each other throughout the interview, and held hands throughout. It’s nice to see their connection. I thought Harry’s reaction to the children question was funny, like he was startled by it. Meghan is definitely a more articulate speaker than Harry, in that she doesn’t stutter as much as he does. I do have some nitpicks, but I will save those for anther time.

Overall, I very much like this interview and I think Meghan did really well here. I like having this look at them, and knowing more about them as a couple.

  1. MMR, your thoughts are mine. I thought this was a nice introduction to Meghan and them as a couple.

  2. Woot! LOVED the interview! She’s very well-spoken (much more than Harry who seems to stutter like I do!), at ease with the camera and Harry, confident but not snobby, a woman with her own mind…..

  3. The interview did for me what the photo call didn’t. I thought they came off warm and affectionate.
My thoughts aligned with yours when they referred to the person who set them up as a she and not a he. So it’s not Markus after all?
Things I liked. Their body language was warm and opened. We always get the cool and aloof feel from so many the BRF this was a welcome reprieve. I liked her response about the ring and how he really seemed to introduce the to his family. I liked how they came off as a couple.
Thing I want to know more about-so why only bring one dog over and leave the other with a friend? Am I the only one who finds jetting off to Botswana after only a few dates with someone weird? I get the 1% have a different lifestyle but I have to really like someone/know them awhile before traveling together commences! The interrupting was off putting tho. And was it a 1.5 yrs or 2? 6 months can make a difference.
I wish journalist wouldn’t ask what Diana would think about so and so. Let’s get real, even if they thought Diana would hate them, they would never say so! So stop asking the ridiculous just to bring up Diana.
Lastly, I thought her dress looked lovely and only wish they had done the photo shoot where we could have seen it instead of the bulky jacket and I’ll fitting shoes.
This version of Harry and Meghan is a couple I care excited about! I think the problem is, Kate has made so many of us skeptical

    1. Also interesting about the 2016 Botswana trip they are talking about is that it was in the middle of Harry’s elephant thing last year. Harry was in Botswana last year for his 500 elephants move thing, and Meghan joined him in the country. So… did Harry not actually do charity work the entire time he was in Botswana? Like, he was just chilling with Meghan instead of doing the charity work KP claimed he was doing? I’m sure he did charity work as well, but not as much charity work as KP claimed he did if he had time to spend 5 days holed up with Meghan. So did Harry just out KP’s lies?

      1. Oh you’re right! I forgot he did some work there then. Guess he’s taking a note out of William’s book-schedule a day or two of work to get the taxpayers to foot what is essentially a private trip. Hmm things that def need to be looked at more in depth.

      2. I think he did charity work. There were videos and photos of it right? But didn’t he extend his stay there? Or am I messing up my recall of the events that happened. Anyway, while I haven’t watched the interview, I like everything that’s been said. It made me feel less cynical about the two of them especially when they talked about making the effort of getting to know each other, spending time with each other, the “diaries’ (lol). I’m kinda excited now. I do find it interesting that a part of Harry, while dating Meghan, he was very conscious about how whether she would do well with the job or not. That’s something he’s mentioned about before. So I think it’s obvious that, apart from love, he was very much looking for someone who would be up to the challenge of being a royal. I think that’s the big difference between this match and W&K. Will was all about his choice while Harry still made a conscious effort to have someone who would be an asset to the family. Overall, I’ve become excited for them. I’m glad I just ignored all the press about of the last year. It makes getting to know them feel much authentic.

        1. Oh I think he did some charity work – there are photos and a reporter followed him for a couple of days – I’m just questioning whether he did as much charity work as KP claimed he did. KP has a history of lying.

          1. He probably did a couple of days took some picture and videos than holidays for the rest how long had they known each other be for Botswana it seems rushed

          2. Of course all you cynics cannot imagine that Meghan got involved in moving the elephants. It has to be all lies because they haven’t handed over their diaries so you can check very moment.

She’s a woman who seems to want to get involved, why not trust her on day 1?

          3. I can’t see her getting involved in that, no, Birdy, because to them it was about their holiday.

I mean, Harry is just as bad as William in that respect ,and we all know it. Dashing off to holidays. Traveling a lot. Keeping it all hidden. And using the taxpayer to foot the bill just like William’s stupid trip to Kenya to go to Jecca’s wedding… Y’all paid for that because he had one meeting with the Kenyan President for 10 minutes! I have no reason to think otherwise with Harry’s track record…

      3. Perhaps he did-all the charity work as he claimed too but either extended his stay or started his stay a week early. I understand that we are all a bit cynical about the younger royals and the “facts” that KP puts out but for me, today at least, I’m choosing to believe everything Harry says 🙂 🙂 tomorrow or the next day I’ll be back to my cynical old self 🙂

        1. Agreeing with Birdy on this one! Why couldn’t she have been involved with the elephants? She herself shadowed an intern before getting involved with the UN to know how to be a better ambassador. I think some of the cynics need to look at her good attributes, of which there are plenty..

        2. KP said he was working most of the time. Remember the long weekend (?) he took to attend the wedding of his Spencer Cousin George who got married in SA.

      4. I was thinking that too MMR 🤔
But decided not to speak up as this is about their engagement. But yea hopefully it was more at the end of his trip- he did charity work for 3 weeks and then the last week was a personal
        Time?

    2. Delurking to comment on the dog: it sounds like the older dog was too frail/too ill to be brought over. It would make sense to leave the dog with good friends rather than stress him out with a big move.

I thought Meghan did extremely well in this interview. She was confident, relaxed and well spoken. I liked how Harry deferred to her when they spoke at the same time. He clearly respects her and they seem very in love with each other.

I know a lot of people criticize Meghan for craving the spotlight but honestly, in order to marry a royal you have to at minimum be comfortable with the attention and ideally someone who shines and isn’t intimidated by the press. She seems to have the poise and self confidence to manage that aspect of her job well.

It remains to be seen whether she will work harder than W&K or whether she’ll be allowed to do anything that may potentially steal their thunder. I don’t think it will be entirely under her control. It would be a shame if she got labeled as workshy simply because she isn’t permitted to show up the Doolittles.

      1. I agree. If this interview showed us anything is that media training and being comfortable with the attention makes a ton of difference. She’s confident, enjoys the spotlight and is such a better speaker than the trio. I’m curious to see how they will organize their press office.

        1. Good point about the dog. I moved to Europe for two years and I did not take my dog with me. The trip over the ocean in a dog kennel seemed like it would be brutal. Also, I knew my parents would take very good care of her. There is really nothing to criticize Meghan Markle over regarding this topic.

      2. “it sounds like the older dog was too frail/too ill to be brought over. It would make sense to leave the dog with good friends rather than stress him out with a big move.”

I straight away thought the same thing GATITA.

        1. Also some older dogs can’t be vaccinated for rabies, a requirement for a move to the UK, due to health reasons.

    3. I think she only brought one dog because it has been said she shares custody of the dogs with her ex boyfriend Cory, he has been seen walking them I think anyway. Maybe he wanted to keep sharing the dogs and they agreed to each keep one? She said the other was staying with “Friends” she could be referencing her ex without wanting to say her ex boyfriend.

    4. Presumably they met somewhere around 2 years ago and had a couple of dates. Many people have a “cross over” period between meeting someone new and finalising a previous relationship – that can be a difficult process for all the parties concerned – so the “official” story becomes a later start out of consideration for the ex partner. People know that Meghan had a boyfriend around the time she met Harry. He too might have been seeing someone else too.

      1. Since there’s been so much publicity about her dogs – and it’s such a dog friendly nation, it would have been nice if she had just said that – as it was, it sounded a bit disingenuous. My least favourite part of the interview – whilst the corgis were the best.

    5. I loved the interview. I found both of them very warm. You can see they do love each other. I liked how they both looked at each other when answering questions. There’s something about the way they are around each other. I like it. I find her confident but relaxed. Something I don’t think I’ve ever seen in Kate. I’m optimistic, but things could change. I hope it doesn’t.

As for the Botswana trip. I don’t think it’s too soon. But I might be biased. I’ve been with my current boyfriend for 6 months. We’ve been talking for almost a year now. But we booked a trip to Berlin, Athens & Cairo after our 2nd date. We live in Canada. We booked it June 3rd and left June 25th. Anything could’ve gone wrong in the time from when we booked it to when we left, as well as during the trip. But here we are 6 months later.

      1. The photo session was what it says on the tin ( UK readers will understand that comment)…a PHOTO session. The questions came later, why all the criticism for getting photographed at a Photo session?

  4. The interview made me love her even more I think. I’m not one who is usually into the BRF or royal weddings seeing as they’ve never interested me, but I will for sure tune into theirs if it is made public. I’m excited to see her wedding dress, to see her out and about doing charity work, all of it. They are a beautiful couple and I wish them a lifetime of happiness.

    1. With the few questions they answered they seemed a little awkward and unprepared. Why not simply announce that questions will be answered in a separate interview. Why didn’t Jason manage that better? At the time, I didn’t realize the interview was separate, so I thought those meager questions were it, and was disappointed.

      1. Ugh, I meant to post this to a comment above. I keep forgetting that the “reply” button here is next to the name of the poster, where on KMR it is at the bottom of the comment.

  5. I agree with everyone so far. They kept looking at each other and making side comments smiling. I’m smiling right now just thinking about the interview. Very cute couple! Now, I don’t want to make it all about what she wears but I think Meghan has an opportunity to make her mark in fashion but the next few months and appearances are crucial. Maybe she doesn’t care? But if she does I hope she will choose thoughtful pieces that highlight her assets and stay edgy as possible within the constraints of her new position. I think a lot of us have Kate style fatigue and hoping for something fresher and more interesting. The coat was a miss for me. I’m meh on the shoes but I liked the dress and now we know why she was getting that facial last week. I can’t wait to see more!

    1. @Tangie, I seem not to have hit the correct “Reply” button the first time; my response to you is below. Sorry for the error!

  6. This was my favorite part:

“I think in these beginning few months and now being boots on the ground in the U.K. I’m excited to just really get to know more about the different communities here, smaller organizations we’re working on the same causes that I’ve always been passionate about.”

Sounds like she has realistic expectations and I think she has a lot of personality to connect well with people.

    1. Replying to @Tangie, I read your comment just after reading this article by fashion columnist Vanessa Friedman in the New York Times, in which she speculates on the impact Meghan could have (judging by the choices she’s already made) and ending with: “Ms. Markle has a chance to chart a new course via her [wedding] dress, one that is perhaps a little more contemporary and a little less spun sugar [than Kate’s and Pippa’s]. One that says to the millions who will be watching: This is the way I am redefining how it looks to be royal. Ms. Markle is someone who implicitly understands the power of dressing the part, so surely this opportunity has not escaped her. Here’s hoping she seizes it.”
      https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/27/fashion/meghan-markle-prince-harry-wedding-style.html

      1. Brilliant article. I hope he’s right about her being able to be more avant-garde. Maybe she’ll even give some tips and help her find a more consistent style.

      2. I want to see her in something sleek that says bride with an edge. She could rock some Reem Acra gowns. I coveted a full ball gown with large box pleats from one of the 2003-2004 collections and still dream about that dress. She would look stunning in that style. The people want a princess so do the full monty and get that big ol’ skirt!

  7. From the bit that I’ve seen, the video is largely unedited. The interviews asks questions, and Harry and Meghan go through them with her (and may I say how very sweet they are together. A love match indeed). It doesn’t have the appearance of being overly edited like William’s and Kate’s. Which provides a sense of authenticity. And nothing yet has been stilted.

They are going to be wonderful. I just have a feeling.

      1. Lol Weatherby! It seems that we all so excited that spelling mistakes are bound to happen! I corrected my post about 3 times before hitting post but I’m sure I missed one or two.

  8. I was thrilled with this interview and very worried for it. I would hope that this interview would show the care both have for each other and Meghan’s personality and I was not disappointed.

She intends to good and I think she will.

The only thing that bothers me is that while we Americans and the Canadians seem thrilled, I am not so sure the UK is. I am very, very nervous for her and how her first engagement will go, esp her first solo one.

    1. Don’t worry Leah, we are thrilled. A breath of fresh air, and a happy Harry. Everyone wants a Westminster Abbey public wedding, not sure we’re going to get it though.

      1. I still say St George’s, on a Saturday.

I think if Harry has his way it won’t be a public do at all, but he darn well better be forced to open all this up to the people who pay for him.

I wish it would be an Abbey wedding, Harry deserves it, but alas different times from Charles, Anne, and Andrew…

        1. If the BRF know what’s right it will be televised. Harry is very popular and they need to capitalise on it. Also don’t want anyone to be able to say they are not fully welcoming of her, or any possible racial overtones. If her father is for some reason not at the wedding ( I really hope he is ) then her Mum can walk her down the aisle. Ooh now there’s a question, as an American will she want her kids to call her Mom?

          1. I hope it’s televised. It really should be a big public thing, Harry should have that.

I’d imagine yes! Though I guess Meghan would get used to Mum. 🙂

We’re Americans but my kid calls me Mum and Mummy more than Mom and Mommy. I blame visiting family and him also saying banana and tomato with an affected plummy accent (not as bad as Kate’s, but it’s hysterical).

        2. So glad to hear some in the U.K. are happy about the engagement news. The comment section at DM is filled with nasty comments about the couple.

I think they seem very in love, protective of each other and a good team. All things which are needed in marriage. Despite a life with many positives, you never know what sad or difficult situations may come your way. These two look like they can handle the hardships without blaming each other.

I like that they said positive things about many family members (including Diana’s side). It was a nice touch.

  9. That boy is crazy in love with that girl… and vice versa….she was as cool as a cucumber 🥒

  10. I am liking her even more now and am loving the two of them together!! They are so darn cute together, I’ve watched the interview 4 times now (please don’t judge) and have a big smile, each and every time, watching them together. They just can’t quite seem to be close enough to each other and the hand holding so warmed my cold, little heart!!

Folks on other sites have commented that she seems to talk over him but I don’t see that. I see the interviewer asking her more questions and her helping him along, speaking about his personal life is not his forte but I thought he did a fine job.

    Wuv, tue, wuv!!

    1. I agree–they seemed to really work as a team in answering the questions, with Meghan stepping in where Harry was less comfortable and helping him to shine. All in all, I think it was just what you would hope to see in an engagement interview.

  11. MMR very nice overview! The strength of Harry and Meghan is that she isn’t British, she’s self made and confident in her own skin…Harry had the opportunity to introduce his family to her as normal as possible under the circumstances. She’s very engaging and I for one am looking forward to seeing what they do with their platform…I would love to hear what you didn’t like in another post…promise not to judge!!

  12. I got tears in my eyes when he talked about his mother. In every happy moment of his life, he will
always be wondering about what could’ve been? Is his mom looking down on him and is excited for him? Would she have gotten along with his future wife and kids? Same thoughts that go through William’s mind too.

It’s nice that they are sitting close together, it’s not a stilted interview, they are into each other. Best of luck to them- with Harry being further removed from the throne, hopefully they will truly have a chance of being a loyal and loving couple to each other and not become bogged down with protocol. Here’s to hoping that they work more than WK do too.

And I know I have said that this gives her publicity and career boost like nothing else would- I still feel that way. I will add however that given the scrutiny that she’ll be under for at least until the next 20 yrs (once WK’s kids will become adults and thus will be the new young royals and dominate headlines), it’s for the best that she actually enjoys the spotlight. She’ll likely be willing to get out and about more and be sociable with people unlike Kate. That’s probably also why Harry said that she would be good at the job. I like that they both admitted that Meghan isn’t just marrying the guy, she’s also marrying into a historic institution and she’s marrying into a job. Given Kate’s performance at her job thus far, I don’t think WK had that conversation with each other? That this isn’t just 2 ppl marrying each other, but this is also a job.

    1. It’s interesting that Kate as a British subject, who’s lived her whole life in a country with a monarchy and dated the future King for 8+ years seemed to have no idea what her role, her “job” would be. Did she never hear about the Queen’s speech for her 18th birthday (21st birthday maybe) were she promised to serve the “great Imperial nation” for as long as she lived? Did she really not understand that duty and service are hallmarks of the British monarchy?

      1. Kate didn’t care, I don’t think, nor did she see beyond the wedding. She just wanted to be a kept woman. Would have been better off marrying as her sister did though I’m sure Kate wanted the fame and fortune as well that came with it, girl never saw a camera she didn’t like!

Meghan has worked and I think Harry has an innate sense of duty his brother lacks so I’m sure she gets it more than Kate ever would. Or William come to think of it who laughs at the plebs and scoffs at being king and duty and whatever if it interferes with his fun.

        1. Lauri, you raise important questions. Also Kate has a university degree which I believe would add to her understanding of the role she has undertaken as wife of a Duke and possibly future king. It includes a marriage And an important responsibility requiring work and duty outside of her home life.

I know of commentators on various sites who are chastising those who offer any comparisons between Kate and Meghan. I don’t think I would compare the two because their roles are different, but there are relevant similarities. As an example, if a CEO of a company wasn’t hardworking and dedicated to his role; then of course a high executive with a positive work ethic would be compared, both within the company and in the general business community.

The Firm is a business. And I think if Kate believes she married the CEO and thus has no work obligations other than having children, I believe she is mistaken. She took on the role of wife and member of the British family. I think she was coddled by the royal family to increase the success of the marriage as well as offer a gradual transition. In my opinion, this multi- year gap year has long expired.

I don’t agree with folks who think that as a potential Queen Consort, Kate gets a pass to live a sheltered life without championing important causes and charities. Her role requires a strong work ethic, a passion and respect for the British people. Her work doesn’t have to be political or controversial. And she is a role model for her children, who will undertake royal duties as they grow older. You cannot expect that the Cambridge’s children will wake up one day as teenagers and have an instant epiphany of the importance of their contribution is to the monarchy. I believe this must be instilled in the childrens’ formative years.

I admit I am perplexed by the notion that Harry cannot exceed William’s work.
Would Charles discourage Harry and Meghan from excelling beyond William and Kate in their work? Is there some mandate that prevents certain royals from overachieving in William’s eyes?

I wish Harry and Megyn the best for a bright future for their marriage and the contributions they undertake on behalf of the British Commonwealth.

As an aside, I am curious to know what Carole Middleton thinks about the upcoming nuptials. Let’s not be naive to think after all these years promoting and guiding Kate and William, that her goals and interest in ensuring her daughter’s security and image are lost upon her.

MMR, thank you for all of the timely and brilliant work that you do. Hats off to you! You are an example of what dedication and hard work are all about.

  13. On another note, Waity has an engagment tomorrow, sure she will be asked about Meghan and Harry. It will interesting to see her reaction as she is rarely asked about anyone other than her kids and William and she is not good at hiding her feelings or being spontaneous.

    1. I am sure it will be very generic because I don’t think they have actually met that many times. And if the Lainey blind was true…. well then…
I did like how they mentioned how often they had tea with Charles. It is nice to hear him involve his father.. and I was surprised to even hear a reference to the Spencer side of the family. I forgot they existed because William seemed to have never referenced them.

I suspect that Meghan will see Zara, Peter and the York sisters much more than Kate does. Harry doesn’t seem to be dropping his current family for that of his future wife.

      1. I also liked that they have been with Charles a number of times already. And agree that from what they said they haven’t been with the Cambridges often: “A couple of times” was then modified to “a few,” so probably three at most. And loved the fact that she has spent time with Diana’s sisters. I wonder if William had the courtesy or sensitivity to do that with Kate?

And regarding that incident of Kate not sharing a ride with Meghan, if it wasn’t a deliberate snub than it is just another example of Kate’s thoughtlessness, her apparent inability to see past her own self.

        1. Considering William ditched Kate to meet the Queen on her own when he went to Jecca’s brother’s wedding in Africa, missing his own cousin’s nuptials, yeah, I cannot see William introducing Kate to anyone until they pretty much got engaged. Remember Harry saying he looked forward to getting to know Kate! They barely knew one another and probably still don’t, but they have to push the W&K take care of Harry and feed him and make sure he doesn’t tie his shoes improperly ’cause he can’t do anything without them.

          1. Yes, so tired of the “aren’t we so tight/see how we support Harry” narrative. But not looking forward to the Kate mentoring Meghan story line that will be forced upon us.

And I think that the fact that Harry chose to take Meghan to spend some intimate time with his mother’s sisters–not just basic introductions at a large gathering–is a very touching way to honor his mother. I’m sure that it meant the world to his aunts as well.

    2. @Leah

Are you really expecting her to say anything other than smile and say she’s very happy. I have no reason to believe that Catherine has any strong feelings of dislike or resentment towards that she couldn’t muster a simple ‘I’m very happy for them’.

  14. A few thoughts:
    — I worry for her a little because I think (or want to think?) that she genuinely wants to use the position to do good, and I think that she may find her wings clipped a bit. Part of that will be by doing lots of different kinds of engagements, if they do the kind of bread and butter stuff that’s necessary to keep the people behind them; partly by Will and Kate, unless they can find a way to get out from under them; partly by the system and the courtiers, who still have a lot of say in what and how things get done. It might be incredibly frustrating to know how much good one might be doing but not be able to as much or in the way one might desire.
    —Love all the hand squeezes
    — I want to see the dress more. You could see there was a bow and some gathers; I bet it’s really lovely.
    — Holy crap, so much beige! I’m hoping that might mean that W&K took anything cute with them but then again, we know from what we’ve seen that Kate really likes super simple palettes. I wish we could see it after Meghan gets in there and decorates.

I still dislike the photo call and what it could— hopefully does not, but could— mean about things like simple interactions with the press. But I think a lot more of their actual relationship now.

    1. Oh, and I do hope that she wasn’t just being diplomatic but that she and Kate really will have a nice relationship. They also mentioned multiple meetings with Charles, and it would be lovely if they could be a bridge to a better relationship there.

  15. Wait a minute, where did that interview take place?

I do believe Lainey’s blind is true and I can’t imagine that Waity is really happy for Meghan and Harry. After all, she won’t be the only woman in the trio and it won’t be a trio anymore. And Kate won’t have the lion’s share of the attention anymore.

But one thing I do want to mention and one thing that has been glossed over, I got a “vibe’ when Harry and Meghan talked about her dad. There seems to be a story there, it’s just a vibe I get. I think something is up.

    1. Hi Leah, KMR has asked several times for you to not call Kate “Waity” why can’t you respect her wishes?

      1. Because she hates Kate. Meghan herself said that Kate has been amazing but some people online choose to believe stories to support their hate for Kate.

        1. That’s pretty fresh coming from someone who said Meghan was a prostitute because she is an actress.

          1. NIC919: Where did I say that? Copy and paste my comment where I said she was a prostitute. But you won’t dare because you know you are twisting my words.

        2. Kate hates other women judging by her behavior. If they aren’t family she’s got a history of being pretty horrendous to them. Other women are competition–for William; for attention; etcetera. Her behavior holds this up and has done for years and years with lots of examples. Kate has no friends outside her mother and sister, never spends time with anyone or has been seen with much of anyone in years. Very peculiar.

What else would Meghan say? Yeah, Kate’s been awful to me? lol

          1. Yes, Meghan was very diplomatic, the only recourse really.

I imagine Kate sees her as an interloper and a spoiler. Women not of family are perceived as threats. I’m sure she’s working on changing that right now. She’ll probably bring on the grinning wattage for starters.

          2. @Ellie Amazing can mean many things. As in… ‘amazing’ how she just drove past and left me standing there. Lol!

      1. I agree with Ellie on this. Kate does not like other women unless she is related to them and I can’t imagine that she will ever be nice or welcoming to Meghan, no matter what either woman says.

      2. I noticed more of Charles’s speech patterns and pronunciations from Harry in this interview than I’d heard before.

    2. Dear God I hope this spells the end of the Trio. Meghan and Harry need to set out on their own. Without William and without Kate.

I see the latter as dead weight to be honest. Let’s see what the new duo can accomplish!

      1. I see your point with Harry breaking away with Meghan but after Charles who will foot the bill? William and Catherine, we can’t constantly play them against each other because long term it’s Will and Kate on top.

      2. I want to see the trio dismantled, too. But, W and K can only gain from being in the spotlight that Harry and Meghan will generate. Ugh, I feel sorry for them. Just travel to the Commonwealth nations and do your own thing, you two special ones. Leave the others in the dust!

      3. Sadly, I got the feeling that the Three will become Four. And Meghan is the perfect frontwoman, a persuasive mouthpiece for their blather. She will make them and HT look amazing while the Cambs slack off even more.

    3. They said that they were “here” roasting a chicken, I think. Or some other reference to staying in “here” so I inferred that they were at Nott Cott. But I could be wrong.

    4. Puzzled by that – there have been multiple interviews and speculation and comments from various of her relatives. How close she is to them is another matter of course so hopefully they’ll disappear.

    5. Hi everyone. I’m new to this blog and have been enjoying it very much (great job MMR!). But please can we just be happy for them and stop with all the arguing and snippy comments? Someone said in an earlier post, if you don’t like a way a person is commenting, just scroll past it. I think that’s a great suggestion and would make this blog a lot more enjoyable to read. Thanks!

        1. Asking someone to be nice to Kate by calling her deranged is hardly helpful.
KMR/MMR has to my understanding asked people to consider not using that term but has not banned them.
Leah always has an interesting and thoughtful point of view even if it isn’t the same as yours. She is certainly forceful but that doesn’t make her deranged.

          1. Leah obsessive hate of kate is deranged she been asked by kMr numerous times to stop she then attacks kate claiming she does it cause she a feminist despite referring to Kate as a matress you would think kate did something to her personally as soon as the media gives Meghan an unflattering nickname she will hit the roof but she thinks its fine to degrade kate then play dumb

      1. There is an unpleasant alliterative nickname for Meghan much out there too – perhaps all should be avoided. We know Kate waited – it may have been a wise thing to do – royal men aren’t easy to live with – I only wish she had more work experience during that time.

We know Meghan as an actress would be used to courting attention – it’s part of the job. I only hope she knows she must scale that back now.

        1. Julia IMO she scaled it back when she closed her blog.

I criticised her quite harshly with some of her solo walks around London a year ago, she’s got it absolutely right now. She’s camera aware, comfortable in front of the media and savvy but I don’t think she avidly courting attention, she doesn’t need to.

Meghan Sparkle is shining like an absolute star. I am mesmerised by her. She and Harry have charisma in truckloads and it’s beautiful to see a couple so in love, so tactile and so together.

          1. @Ellie Amazing can mean many things. As in… ‘amazing’ how she just drove past and left me standing there. Lol!

      1. I wasn’t thinking of sparkle which I think is rather sweet, especially for someone who didn’t seem to understand Cockney rhyming slang. (There is a not so sweet Cockney Slang being revived out there too!) I don’t like these nicknames so I won’t repeat the one used for Meghan but it’s easily found should anyone care.

  16. It breaks my heart about her one dog, though. Why can’t older dogs be vaccinated for rabies? Is the dog for sure never coming to England?

    1. I answered the question. Not my fault if you don’t like the answer. And newsflash, I owe you nothing.

      1. No, you didn’t answer the question but you evaded it rather nicely. I’ll try phrasing it another way “why won’t you respect KMR’s wishes?”

        1. I think it will take MMR outright calling her on it, or deleting her comments, to make it stop. She did call out the mattress comment.

          1. This used to be an enjoyable place to come but the constant toxic comments about kate have ruined it I’m not even a fan of hers but it become bullying the fact that some people seem to get enjoyment out of ripping a person apart is sad she gets criticized for everything ,when she works ,when she doesn’t ,her clothes ,her weight ,her voice people even take pot shots at her children peole even tried to claim she got pregnant to take attention away from m and h its becoming as toxic as celebitchy

  17. My friend is a talented musician; plays piano & marimba. A few times a year she performs at weddings and summer concerts. We go to music swaps looking for vinyl records, often for music that can be played at those events. She called today asking if I saw the photo op of H&M. I said yes; she replied, what music? “Every Little She Does Is Magic” I said. I now have a clip of that photo op set to the song ELTSDIM played on marimba as the background music. (She does this for amusement.)
Does anyone else associate events like today’s with a piece of music? What would you have used as background to the photo op and/or the interview? I ask because KMR has a wide readership & I want to know if music comes to mind when you view happy events like this.

  18. My take on the interview:
—I believe Harry and Meghan have been engaged for a while and all his family were aware, they were just waiting for the right time to announce the engagement, thus the “my grandparents have known for a while Im surprised they kept it quiet for this long” beginning of Nov is not “this long” IMO.
—The dog that stayed in Canada is with the Mulroneys not with her ex thus the “he is with very close friends”
—These two are breaking down a lot of barriers that have long existed in the UK…Harry doesn’t see colour in Meghan, he just sees a woman that he is crazy about.
—-It seemed to me like so far, Meghan and POW and DOC do get along nicely–hopefully it stays that way, I want Meghan to get along with prince Charles and give him all access and time he wants with his g/kids whenever God gives them any.
—–Harry is very uncomfortable with the press, it don’t matter who that press are, he just so nervous. Im convinced that this is one of the reasons Harry always gravitates to kids whenever he is on official duties, so that the attentions is focused on the cute kid and not on him.
—-I still have a deep gut feeling that Meghan holds dual citizenship of both USA and Canada.
—-This put to rest all the tabloid gossip that Harry had already met Meghan’s father, it seems dad is not very fond of leaving his Mexico home, or maybe he is ill and Megs just don’t say nothing about it. Hope Meg’s father walks her down the isle, she deserves it.
—-I love love love H&M and I wish them all the best in this world.

    1. Me too re: kids if they have any. It breaks my heart Charles is not allowed to be around George and Charlotte while the Middletons have such access to them. I’m sure it breaks Charles’s heart, too, considering how much he loves kids. It’s such a petty, mean thing to do, keep your grandchildren away from a loving grandparent who’s probably desperate for time with them. Harry doesn’t seem the sort at all. I’d think Charles would like Meghan–she’s smart, interested in things, not a doormat, and is educated.

      1. It might break his heart, but as long as Harry hasn’t any children we have no idea if Charles even considers to make the time that often (as in him going through inconveniences). His schedule is loaded.
Family affairs and animosities are highly subjective and everyone has his own truth. I think it is strange that Wiliam seems to prefer the Middleton family but from my own experience I know that there can be reasons that lie deep and are too hurtful and private to disclose (especially to strangers you don’t even have a personal relationship to). If a child turns his back on its family (not even sure that is what he did- the BRF is not known for being the warmest or closest family) there is always a story there.

        1. William likes being the center of attention. He married the family who worships him, not Kate for herself, IMO. Kate just looks the other way and allows him to live as a bachelor as much as he’d like, and she gets to do whatever she wants with all the trappings. Charles doesn’t put up with that crap I’d imagine and William probably wants Dad to drop everything for the time when he and Kate deem Charles can see the kids. When your schedule is packed like that, it’s not like Charles can just drop engagements or tours or meetings to go to Anmer and I’m sure he wouldn’t want to go to Bucklebury where Kate and the kids are often!

        2. Charles and his grandkids don’t need any “find some room in yr calendar to squeeze in the kids” they are his grandkids. They can just drop in at his home or whatever, he doesn’t work 24/7. If he don’t see G&C as much, there is a reason why. I know we all like to think we know these people but we really don’t know anything other than what they look like, we know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes. If there is some heavy duty family stuff, my hope and prayer is that Megs doesn’t get caught in between, just stay out of it and let them duke it out with each other all they want.

          1. No doubt in my mind that Charles would happily make time for his grandchildren when he’s not travelling. He’s been given short shrift for so long when all he longs for is a little girl to dote on. I hate how Charles is painted, when William clearly has shown himself to be the mean-spirited malcontent.

  19. I caught here and there of the interview and they are not planning to have a family very soon? Ms Markle is 36 y.o. Unless they don’t plan to have a family, I think given her age, she would want to work on that very, very soon right after the wedding.

If they don’t plan to have children, then the Cambridges’ children would be the only direct royal line left to inherit the dynasty. Maybe the Cambridges have an inkling of Prince Harry’s plans and that’s why they’re having so many children?

I often wonder, if the Cambridges’ baby arriving or Prince Harry’s child born challenged either mentally or physically, would the royals shut the baby away as they normally did? Now, don’t get carried away thinking that I am ill-wishing any of them but having children later in life carry a lot of risks.

    1. Beatrice, I think he just said that to protect Meghan a while from the press with watching and suspecting ber being pregnant. It must be annoying to always be watched in this way.
      But I don’t think.that they will wait very long.Perhaps max.2 years.

      1. Haha I was thinking max 2 months!!! I think hey will try asap, but of course nature may take a little longer to oblige. But she is probably aware it is possible to work while pregnant.

  20. 36 years old is not having one foot in the grave people, this is the 21st century. Times have changed where women were routinely having kids in their 20s, now a LOT of women have kids in their 40s. The Sussexes can decide to have a couple of years to themselves and enjoy each other before they start a family, and that’s alright. My feeling is that Harry doesn’t want to start a family right away and make it to look like they’re stating a family in desperation, that would be playing into this narrative that Harry reason for marrying Meghan is so she can have his kids blah blah blah. I’m glad Harry shut that interviewer down real quick when she started getting into that crap, geesh, let the couple get married first and go on a honeymoon before you get into that start a family stuff.

    1. Judging by their reaction to that question I don’t expect them to have kids, honestly. They both seemed so put off by the concept. Funny considering Harry’s love of children. Something about their reactions especially Meghan’s was weird to that question! They knew it would be asked, considering Harry has gone on and on about wanting kids–and now he’s like meh not really, lol

      1. @Ellie

Interesting that you saw it that way; Meghan looked giddy. Harry seemed like he just wants to get through the wedding before any talk of kids which is very soon anyway. They’ll definitely have kids sooner rather than later.

        1. I noticed he seemed perturbed by the question to me, and Meghan looked down and uninterested about the concept! Funny how we see it all differently.

I would love to see Harry as a dad, and Charles as a loving involved granddad! If they have kids I hope Meghan’s lovely genes outshine the horsey Windsor ones, lol.

          1. I think they were surprised by the question. I’m guessing it wasn’t in the script and they were a bit gobsmacked on how to reply. You could sense the dead air. Harry finally did say “near future”, whatever “near future” means (he should have added that last bit a la Charles, ha!)

      2. It’s so interesting how we can each read body language differently because I thought they both looked happy at the concept. I hope so. Harry seems like someone who would be sad to not have that experience.

        1. Agreed. Harry’s reaction was more of a subtle “duh! Of course we’re gonna have kids!” and Meghan was a bit more subdued. I do hope they are blessed with children and that Charles will be able to become the doting grandfather he so clearly wishes to be.

    2. Many women have babies in their 40s, but those are usually through ivf, or if the woman already had a baby when younger. It is harder to conceive when one is over 30, actually. It’s still done, though. I think the hesitation in the remarks made during the interview are only natural. It’s rather nosey to ask a newly engaged couple when/if they will plan for children. Gosh, I was 25 when engaged and if one more person asked my fiance and me when/if we were planning a family, I thought I’d scream. It’s actually nobody’s business, except the couple’s. Family members feel they have the right, too. I guess in the Royal Family, it is something that is expected, though.
But, my goodness, give them a bit of privacy, please.

    3. Unfortunately, I know from personal experience, that it can be a lot more difficult to have a normal pregnancy at the age of 36. I suspect that if they want children, they will start trying right after the wedding.

    4. Times may have changed but women’s output of quality and quantity of eggs hasn’t. It’s scientifically acknowledged that how many eggs a womam puts out after 35 declines greatly and that that the eggs remaining may have degenerated. My sister was 36 when she wanted baby #2 and I used to tease her that she needed to hurry up before her eggs became raisins. The joys of having an RN in the fam=) there’s a reason over 35s go to a high risk dr.
That being said with modern technology and that she seems pretty healthy should go in her favor, not to mention access to the best doctors.
But let’s not pretend that there aren’t inherent risks and fertility related difficulties with her age.

  21. Absolutely adored the interview! Definitely a massive improvement over the photo call.

    My favorite parts:
    1. “Roasted chicken” – LOL. I highly doubt that’s the real story. If it is the real story, so cute. If not, I’m glad they made up something that mundane, and didn’t go for W&K’s over-the-top cheese cliche.

    2. “Boots on the ground” – That’s right, honey. You use your platform and light a fire under the Duchess of DoLittle.

    3. Oh, right, the Spencers. I totally forgot they were a thing! I had no idea that William and/or Harry still had a relationship with them. But it sounds like Meghan has met Diana’s sisters (possibly her brother?), and whoever Julia is.

    4. So glad Charles has had them “over to his place” often. I sincerely hope Meghan can nurture that relationship with Charles. We know he always wanted a daughter, and I think that perhaps he thought Kate would have that kind of relationship with him, but they don’t seem close at all, and I think it really hurts him that he doesn’t get to see George and Charlotte often.

    5. Interesting that Harry hasn’t met her dad.

    6. So cute how Harry reacted to the mention of Meghan’s mom! Hopefully it’s because she’s a genuinely cool and interesting person, and not because he’s working out some creepy mommy issues *coughcough*.

    7. Also, the shivers and smile when the interviewer used the word “husband.” THIS. BOY. IS. READY. TO. BE. MARRIED.

    8. THE CORGIES LOVE HER! I mean, what better vote of approval do you need ?!?!? 🙂

I’m so happy for them. I can’t wait for the coming weeks and for them to start doing engagements together. And for the wedding, of course!

    1. Reba, the boots on ground comment caught my eye too but I think it’s just her optimism coming out here. She will do what the royals allow her to do. Her first year may be heavy like Kate’s but once children start coming, I think she will slow down and want to be more of a stay at home mother while they are small. My thoughts…

    1. Love the corgi remark too. Very sweet on both their parts.

We heard at the beginning and possibly still going on that Charles often went to the opera quietly with Kate and he certainly did an engagement with her – I suspect if there is a problem, it is with his relationship with William, and quite possibly that also extends to Harry. I don’t think either has been pleased with the recent books about Charles and Camilla that rubbished their mother and that’s why both became suddenly outspoken about Diana.

Julia is Julia Guinness Samuels, Diana’s close friend and a grief counsellor – she is a godmother to George (I think) and William is active with her charity, Child Bereavement UK. Kate was seen greeting Mr Samuels on her engagement at the Anna Freud Centre.

I thought Meghan ate meat although she goes vegetarian occasionally.

Harry’s comments about her mother were very nice. Her comments about her dogs were odd – it sounds like she”s giving one away – and since there is a time period of bringing dogs in under the pet passport, it’s not clear how her other has been here for some time. Since she has such assets for transporting dogs at her disposal, I’m not sure why she would need to give one away – but there may be a reason. I would think it would be hard on the dogs to be separated though – they do bond closely.

    2. I loved that Corgis comment. The royal seal of approval. Dogs and cats are a good reliable indicator of character.

  22. I don’t believe for one second that she did’t know who. Harry is.
It’s the same that was said about Kate.
She is not shy and very outspoken.I just hope she can find her place in the British monarchy. It’s not easy for Americans.
People in Europe have their opinion on that.
Af it is important for royal members how they are seen by the public.

    1. Lovely Blossom, she didn’t say that she didn’t know who he was. She said that she didn’t know much about him. That she hadn’t formed an idea about what kind of person he was based off tabloid reports. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it doesn’t sound entirely unbelievable.

    2. This is the reason why when Harry was asked a question about how “many people know him” he quickly interjected with “think they know”. A lot of people think they know these people, but truth is they just know of these royal family people they really don’t know nothing about them. Meghan is just being truthful when she says she did not know Harry, she had probably heard of him but she didn’t know the guy from a hole in the ground, I don’t get why that is hard to believe.

    3. I am not sure that she is or isn’t Vegan. I think she just doesn’t eat a lot of red meat. She eats pizza and turkey.”

      1. Yes I think she likes vegan food and probably eats a lot of it, but not a fully practising vegan.

      2. I have a friend who is “mostly vegan” but occasionally eats bacon? Like, once or twice a year? Seriously cracks me up.

        1. Bacon is the only meat that keeps me from being 100% vegetarian. It’s not really the ethical side of things that keeps me from eating meat, it’s that it hurts me physically. I’ve had my gallbladder taken out and still can’t eat much meat at all. I indulge in bacon once or twice a week.

  23. I’ve seen some gifs and pics going around of some moments after the interview. Has anyone else seen these? Is there a video of their post-interview interaction?

  24. Loved the interview and am so excited to see how this couple blossoms! When I watched the video on YouTube, it got to the end and immediately loaded the Will and Kate engagement interview next. I skipped through it for some comparison and it’s just so cringe-worthy – still! Harry and Meghan seem much more natural and I have high hopes for them!

  25. Overall liked the interview. But Harry really stood out to me. He seemed tired and distant. The hand holding and soothing on her part got tiresome. It’s like she’s babysitting and soothsaying a grown baby.

I wish them all the best and hope they can carve their own niche. Still wouldn’t be surprised if somehow a wedding didn’t happen.

Admire the ‘work’ they want to accomplish, but as a members of the RF, they can’t be outspoken about heads of other countries they don’t like. I think Meghan’s made that clear in the past. Now it’s a different game and you can’t tweet or post something about a head of state or a country you don’t agree with.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if they choose to adopt a child and also have their own. Just some random thoughts.

Harry didn’t come across super connected to the day as Meghan did.

    1. God, yes. I’ve got short stubby legs and I’m only 5’4, so my dream of those svelte legs will never come true. *sigh*

  26. Meghan handled the interview superbly. Her training as an actress is going to serve her well.

I don’t think Kate is a monster. I’m sure she and William genuinely want Harry to be happy and will make every effort to have a great relationship with Meghan now that she’s joining the firm.

But my god, what a challenge it will be. Kate and Will cannot compete. They simply don’t have Meghan’s charm, warmth, training, work experience… or ambition. She is really going to rock their world…

Nevertheless, I’m going to trust Meghan has the people skills to find the right approach to her over-sheltered and less-talented in-laws. It’ll take time and she’ll have to establish trust, but in the end Meghan may breathe life into the aimless, inarticulate Cambridge duo. She’s worked in a highly competitive environment for years; Im sure she’s learned something about managing delicate egos.

But it’s obvious she really will be a threat to Kate and Will. She simply is more alive, interesting, and accustomed to using her mind. It shows!

And yes, Meghan will get smacked down a few times. That’s in the cards too. Long-term, I’m betting she elevates the ambition and energy of her royal cohort. Harry chose a kickass partner.

  27. They did very well. This interview totally made up after the short phtotocall. Still wondering why they did it outside in November? No garden looks nice this time of the year- so much for the background. Why couldn’t they go into a nice greenhouse? And why did she wear those shoes?

Can someone kindly point me to where they disclosed that he hadn’t met her father? Because I thought he asked both of her parents. That would be strange if he never met him.

I love the engagement story. Obviously because that would be quite similar to how I got engagegd. A normal, private but very romantic setting. Those big gestures have always been off-putting for me. But I believe that there was already an understanding. Most couples know in what direction they are heading and have talked about the possibility before. His family might have known for some time that he was going to pop the question at one point. The ring wasn’t made over night and those stones don’t just lay around. He must have asked for them. The choice of a stone from Botswana is a bit of a mystery. I wonder if that is where they first decided to really commit to each other? Is that where Harry realised that she is the one? The first outspoken “I love you”?

I am a huge fan of the ring. It is not pretentious and easier for everyday life than Kate’s. It is also more individual and for its wearer than just picking one which is already so much connected to someone else.

They were much more open than I expected them to be. Colour me surprised. Hopefully, Meghan as a professional can bring a more relaxed (and better curated) relationship with the media.

The green dress is a big win in my book. It does not steel the spotlight from her face but is still very sophisticated. Love the colour!

I am sure their wedding will be televised but I can see it being more like the one of CP and Sophia. It will definitely be smaller than Wiliam’s and I can’t see a drive through the city. Wonder when the date will be. Spring ends with the 1st of July (meteorological) or respectively the 21st of July (calendrical). I can’t see a March wedding. April/ early May can still be a gamble with the weather. So the end of May seems like a good option. And till than Baby Cambridge No.3 will defenitely be born and Kate had enough time to lose some weight (even though I think she shouldn’t feel like she has to- love her look when she is a bit more filled out).

As for the question after children- I am sure they will start trying as soon as possible. All the royal couples in the last years stated they would wait a bit and just enjoy their time. What else are you going to say? “We will start straight away”? Everyone would watch her figure and if they ran into fertility problems the presure would be enormous to talk about it. And yes, statistically you don’t get pregnant as fast/easy when you are over 30. Doesn’t mean you have fertility problems. Mother Nature sadly just hasn’t realised that we live different now.

    1. Photo calls are usually outside. William and Kate were different by having it inside SJP. The most recent indoor engagement photocall i can recall before WK was in 1923 for the Queen’s parents, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon to Prince Albert, the Duke of York. http://l450v.alamy.com/450v/drjna1/the-duke-of-york-and-lady-elizabeth-bowes-lyon-drjna1.jpg

      1. Thanks for the info and the sources. I still think a greenhouse might have been the better alternative but their choices doesn’t seem so strange for me anymore.

  28. Loved this interview. One of my favorite moments was when the interviewer asked Meghan something along the lines of what would she do with her new platform, and Harry interjected “sing?”, and then Meghan burst out laughing. I literally laughed out loud, too.

One thing that I found interesting is that they both referred to the Commonwealth several times, and all of the work that needs to be done in relation to that. Those statements–together with the mention of “meetings” with Charles–makes me wonder if these two are carving out a rather new role for themselves specifically with the Commonwealth. (I don’t really have a clear understanding of what is expected of the RF with the Commonwealth, other than a tour here or there.) Could be a way to avoid what might be seen as competition at home in the UK between H/M and the Cambridges?

    1. Could be because Meghan has lived in Canada for some time and so wants to do things there as well? Who knows. I found the Commonwealth comments a bit weird but also a little calculated as after HM goes I’m sure a lot of nations will dump the British monarch as their own head of state.

      1. Harry had an engagement with the Queen two months ago about Commonwealth : a reception. Commonwealth comes to London next spring and Harry is apparently president of Commonwealth or something like that : a role to welcome Commonwealth representants.
Peppermint on twitter can say more thing about that.

        1. My understanding was the Queen was wanting to stitch up Charles as Head of the Commonwealth ie establish the role as hereditary rather than opening up the role to periodic elections, and chosen on merit.

          1. The Queen is definitely trying to stitch up the Commonwealth so it becomes hereditary property of the British monarchy. She’s been at it in the past decade.

She’s actively and personally campaigned for Charles to be elected it’s head after she is gone. Here is one of her efforts that was outed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37609806

Harry is clearly part of her charm offensive to get her desires fulfilled.

Public ignorance and or BRF gaslighting the public mean there is an assumption that the commonwealth is an inherited role and that inheritance is to the British crown.

Similar gaslighting tactics used about the duchies, Crown Estates etc

      2. The ring is beautiful. I’m not surprised that it’s diamonds. American girls grow up believing that diamonds are a girl’s best friend! haha! Seriously most engagement rings in the US are diamonds rather than colored stones, I’d say.

    2. I can’t imagine what kind of “work” they think is needed in commonwealth countries. I think that once the Queen passes, there will be a renewed push in at least a few countries to remove the British monarch as their head of state. The RF may think a visit from H&M could sway public preferences, but I don’t see that happening.

      1. If Australia, NZ and Canada remove the British monarch as HOS, it does not mean they no longer want to be part of the Commonwealth, and I think the BRF remain an intricate part of the Commonwealth, but just with a different role.

        1. I’m thinking Botswana provides a sanctuary where privacy laws in place (I understand Harry helped drive these) would see him and Meghan undisturbed by press.

      2. Glupace, it’s the kind of comment that makes my blood boil. They assume that the system that enables royalty in the UK can be replicated here. It’s patronising on one level for royals to think their fragrant presence will make everything alright, and burdensome to independent countries on another. Is this the ‘royal magic’ Harry thinks we need? We really don’t.

I also think there is more behind this ie by sending ‘younger’ royals out to certain countries that it will slow down the pace of moving to eliminate the monarch as HoS, that people will fall in love with royalty and think subservience is the way forward. Not a chance.

    3. I was a little peturbed with the Commonwealth comment (I posted over at KMR). From the interview transcript they intend spending a lot of their time in Commonwealth countries. But doing what? Surely not the kind of tours royals indulge in now? These are just holi-tours where countries foot the bill of entertaining said royal, with a few formal engagements thrown in. They are time-fillers/PR for the royals, but unnecessary cost to the host country. The kind of ‘work’ Harry talks about doing does not matter ‘cos it’s just cosmetic.

@Lizzie: There is really no role for them in Commonwealth countries. The monarch is HoS but that’s it. Governors-General in these countries are the Queen’s legal representatives. However, Australian politicians of both major parties here agree that once the Queen dies the issue of Australia becoming a republic will be revisited. I’m not sure of Canada’s position. It does not mean that Australia will leave the Commonwealth, just that the HoS will be one of our own rather than a foreigner inheriting the role through no merit as well as living 12,000 miles away.

In years gone by the royals leaned on Australian governments to appoint Charles, and then much later William, as Governor-General; both requests were rejected because Australia has chosen to appoint its own qualified people to such a post. Charles also wanted to set up a residence in Australia (30+?)years ago, demanding land, buildings and servants, all at Australian public expense. Again, the Australian Prime Minister at the time rejected the demand, saying that Australia had different and more pressing priorities. So I sniff something is afoot with Harry and Meghan intending to lead a charmed life out in the colonies… but apart from a small, dwindling and aging band of elderly royalists and those interested in seeing celebrities in the flesh for a nano-second, royalty is seen as anachronistic and the exact opposite of our egalitarian values in a multi-cultural society. Note that the most consistently critical comments re the BRF on this blog come from those in Commonwealth countries… it’s no accident.

There must be immense amounts of work to be done in Britain that Harry and Meghan can get stuck into. And I don’t mean the photo op meet and greet. Surely they need to be seen and work at home? I can see, clearly, that H&M out of the UK they will pose less of a comparison to W&K should H&M actually step up. However, they ALL need to step up if they wish the privilege to continue. But in their home country thanks.

        1. No Birdy. I think it makes sense for Australia to stay in the Commonwealth. There is nothing problematic in belonging and several republics that were formerly colonies do just that.

The issue – for me, and I think a common view here – is that it is preferable to have a HoS who is Australian and elected/appointed on merit. For example, Australia has appointed native-born citizens to the position of Governor-General since 1930, the first being Sir Isaac Isaacs. A brilliant scholar and High Court judge, his appointment met with objection from King George V who wanted someone he knew (from the Establishment) as well as an Englishman. The Prime Minister of the day, Scullin, stood firm. If you’re picking up on the idea that Australians are independent thinkers, insist on forging their own way and elevating their own, you’re right!

Maybe H&M will set up in Botswana? William and Harry do enjoy the ex-pat vibe there.

For those who’d like more info re. the Commonwealth: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_states_of_the_Commonwealth_of_Nations

      1. I take it Australia and Canada will make their move once Charles and Camilla ascend to the throne.

        1. I’d say so, Emily. No rush. It’s not a priority. The general agreement is to address the issue after the Queen dies, out of respect.

When we had a referendum in 1999 on this issue, it was defeated due to all sorts of nonsense and skulduggery. Even Prince Phillip said we were ‘mad’ to reject the proposal! Passing referenda is a difficult needle to thread and none have been successful without both major parties in support of the proposal. In a nutshell, we have reached a point where both major parties are in support of moving to a republic.

      2. The problem with the younger royals is there overseas trips have no meaning they just are photo ops Charles goes to the Middle east because he has a good relationship with royals there and it brings us money and strengthens faith relations when queen maxima does overseas trip she helps people get micro financing but they also do a hell of a lot for home charities too h k an w over sea trips are just pr exercises why is harry and will going over to save animals in Africa when there plenty of conservation work needed in Britain

      3. Jen, I saw this on twitter and it made me laugh but it plays into them spending time in the commonwealth-try and keep all those countries in the fold. Enjoy
“Prince Harry’s kids will be Americans. What if one grows up to be president and is in line for the throne at the same time? Brits are playing long-ball here, but it’s a smart move. They want America back and this is how they’ll do it.”
        =)

        1. Are things that bad in the US that you guys want to come back to having a monarch as HoS? I can kinda see it on desperate days… But you have to be born in the US to be eligible to run for President… A fanciful tweet.

As Herazeus confirmed, above, the Queen has been trying to stitch up leadership of the Commonwealth as hereditary for at least a decade. Sending younger royals out to larger countries such as Canada and Australia as a charm offensive to keep the monarch as HoS as long as possible is, I think, most definitely planned. But Australia sees itself as much more multi-cultural, and that mix does not identify with Britain as say, generations pre-WW II. Added to that, Aussies can’t just work and live easily in the UK as in post-war years, and of course, when the UK joined the then European Common Market, Commonwealth countries were thrown under the bus since most trade had been with Britain. New markets were then forged, especially in Asia. With that economic independence came a maturity that we were not an outpost of Britain. Now, with Brexit looming, the UK is keen to forge new trade agreements with Australia; that’s fine because business is business. But there’s no going back. I think Brits need to understand that things have moved: the Queen is respected to a point but monarchy is not part of our daily culture, nor necessary – more entertainment as per celebrity culture, a curiosity. Whereas, for many Brits where you have daily reminders of the monarchy, it is very much part of the UK’s identity, or so it has been said.

          1. Ha no, it wasn’t meant as us wanting the monarchy back but a tongue and cheek comment about the BRF getting their long lost colony back =)

    4. Thanks, everyone, and especially Jen, for your comments. Jen, I loved your “something is afoot with Harry and Meghan intending to lead a charmed life out in the colonies”….my thoughts were along the same line.

    5. We may live differently now, but I think Mother Nature got it right. I cannot imagine having the energy or interest in running after a toddler when I was pushing 40. Not saying it can’t be done, but wow, I want to be free of diapers, potty training and constant supervision of kids when I am reaching my late 30s and early 40s.

  29. I love the ring. It is personal for them, & he created it just for her. Also love the fact Diana’s diamonds are included in the ring. N.Lopez

  30. A lot of people talking fashion and wanting Meghan to show up Kate or just be different but if you interviews with Meghan, she has stated her style is simple, classic, with a modern twist, and that she doesn’t really like prints or patterns and is a more of a solid color type of person.

For most people this description of style would be boring or not as daring, so I would advise people lower their expectations.

    1. I think you are right. Her style seems to be more “clean”. People might think it boring but I prefer this over “branching out” just to please people. Why should someone leave his/her comfort zone if they like their style? Nothing wrong with timeless chic instead of being modern. Kate’s experiments (that people desparately wanted to her to take) have been mostly misses in my eyes. It will be interesting if Meghan is going to pick more British designers or more Commonwealth based ones now. I am also wondering if she is choosing a “working” uniform- as the Cambridges seem to do.

    2. Clean style doesn’t mean boring. Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Caroline Bassette Kennedy and Diana in her final couple of years dressed simply, clean lines, rarely patterns.

More recently, have you ever looked at Shekha Mozah’s style? No pattern, solid colours. No frills or bells and whistles. Compunded by need to dress for a super conservative public that requires her hair, arms and legs are covered.

Here is a sample of her looks: http://www.thewomensroomblog.com/images/6a0105356c398f970c013481564991970c-pi.jpg

      1. I didn’t say I found it boring, I said most people hearing what I described would. I have no problem with Meghan’s style (or the description of that style) I actually like it

      2. I don’t think a clean style is boring- but I know plenty of people who do think so, or think women have to incorporate every trend in their style. I am already prepearing myself for all the comments of her boring clothing and how she lost all her style appeal etc.

  31. Lovely! Didn’t love her outfit for the photo but it didn’t seem to matter really. Interestingly Meghan brings more to the table than her outfit which is refreshing. It’s all very exciting. They seem very much in love & I think given their ages, if possible, there will be a prompt Wedding and baby within the year. I think it will be very nice for Harry to have somebody so adept as Meghan in his corner, dealing with the machinations of the RF and all its people. And she seems very much in his corner.

    1. “Interestingly Meghan brings more to the table than her outfit which is refreshing. ”

Yes. It doesn’t seem to matter that much since there are so many things of substance to talk about right now and she is not boring. I hope it lasts! I don’t care what she wears as long as she walks the talk.

  32. After watching the interview I have reached the conclusion that these two really click together! Happy for both of them. They are clearly a couple that are content in each other’s company. Meghan is articulate and confident. Love that!

  33. Again, may I say, “Here’s to love!,” While some of the interview did seem so scripted to jaded me, much of it showed the true love between these two. Scripted? The roasting of the chicken? Sorry, for some reason, it was just too cute to me.

I loved the way they talked about meeting one another and spending time together privately. Wow, will they have to work hard to have some of that time in the future! The sleeping under the stars in Botswana and the inclusion of two of Diana’s diamonds in the ring, were just so beautifully expressed!

Mmm, I wonder if things will stay the same about this new chapter in life. Will Meghan miss acting at all? Just wonder. I loved that they said they met some of Diana’s family, too. And, oh, how I wish they were not neighbors of Will and Kate. Unless, many of us are wrong and they are going to be close.

Meghan is so poised and just radiates joy. I wish them well. Love is just amazing, right? It transforms us and makes us better people. I just hope they will be allowed to be private when they need that. I also think they will work hard and represent the Monarchy well. It was interesting to hear they will be traveling around the Commonwealth. Lucky for the people in those country. I hope they will visit the U.S. often, too!!!

Oh, and btw, the two tabloid newspapers in NY had the same cover photo. Kimothy, you will be “delighted” to note it is the photo where Meghan was doing her “Hi, y’all” wave. Oh, No!!!

And, one more note: The morning show on ABC in the states, Good Morning America, had a piece on Meghan which focused quite a bit on her fashion sense. Needless to say, they set up the competition immediately between Kate and Meghan, which is too bad. Kate’s conservative fashion choices featured some of her worst. I hope people allow these two women to each have her own personality. Hope springs eternal, but usually gets dashed.

  34. I loved the interview. I thought it was very warm. Harry and Meghan came off as a united front. They were both engaging. Harry you can tell it more nervous and not as comfortable. Meghan seems lovely. Very confident and animated. Not a bump on a log like the DoLittles. They seem very connected. A sharp contrast to William and Catherine engagement interview. Which in my opinion seemed stiff and awkward. My favorite part of the interview was about HM corgis. Animals know. So cheers to the engaged couple.

  35. The interview was great! She really will do well in her new role, I suspect. What I’m excited about is watching someone who is warm and affectionate doing work with ease and grace. She’s a great public speaker, you can tell that from this interview. Also, I can understand what she’s saying, unlike other duchesses out there….

The appearance earlier in the day was pretty strange, the distancing with the pond between them and the press. Odd.

  36. I am happy for them! They seem to be really happy together and still in that ‘only have eyes for each other’/’honeymoon’ phase (again or still). I wish them every happiness and I look forward to the passion for important issues that Meghan brings to the table. I really hope that her and Harry together can really make a difference. Thanks for the post MMR!

  37. I haven’t read the comments yet. Yesterday I was grinning like a fool watching these two lovebirds. Oh how I wish life and families were always like that! And babies! Harry said “near future”. Not “future” but “near future”. Looks like they won’t be long in coming.

The interview was perfect. Perfectly perfect perfection. I want to live on that planet. Meghan was aces. So impressive. Major kudos to her, and one doesn’t even need a low bar or other person for comparison. On any stage, she was pitch perfect.

I see that they are awfully keen about their ‘work’. They sound so earnest. Meghan is looking forward to working under the ‘umbrella’. Hmmm. Are we talking Heads Together? And it will be work throughout the Commonwealth. Well, the UK would be a good start. Hello? IIRC, the Commonwealth is great for holitours, sun, sand, safaris, hiking, platinum entertainment and free dinners. Do we see a pattern here? Also, why do they need to bring The Correct View to young people out in the hinterlands? It’s bad enough that coddled, obscenely privileged, undereducated Harry wants to bring The Correct View to kids in the UK.

So, they had 2 dates back to back, and she went off with this guy to Botswana to share a tent? That’s normal. So his being a Prince had nothing to do with it? Such trust.

So, they saw each other every 2 weeks, “four days or a week”. This means Harry was busy holing up with Meghan for days or catching a red eye to Toronto to spend time with her. Every. Two. Weeks. No time for work, huh, Harry? It showed.

“Boots to the ground”. Is that like hitting the ground running? The earnestness, dare I say, keenness, virtually drips off them. There’s no doubt that they adore each other and that he thinks the world of her. But it’s rather odd that their shared passion for causes which cemented their attraction seems to go MIA in the past 16 months. Just sayin’.

In retrospect this interview was perfectly rehearsed and perfectly presented. Meghan looked like a little girl on her best behaviour (not faulting her, BTW). I suppose it couldn’t have been any other way, could it? It also explains the abrupt and shoddy photo call- mustn’t let anything slip like Charles did with Diana, which was clearly not rehearsed, controlled or manipulated. The careful management of image has begun, and it sure sounds a lot like WK’s narrative with all their PR themes, except with affection.

It will be interesting to see what happens. The proof will be in the pudding. At least it won’t be boring, which is a boon for all of us.

Thanks for all your hard work on transcribing, MMR. It makes all the difference.

    1. Because I was sleeping and then working and I haven’t been able to check the blog until now.

  38. Lazy Harry talking about how they bonded over wanting to make a difference in the world makes me think the whole thing is as fake as his work ethic.

I hope they have a nice, beautiful wedding that we can all admire, but I give the marriage 6-7 years.

    1. He wants to save the world as long as it comes with a vacation if your famous nkwadays do about six visits to some charities and you can call yourself an humanitarian 😅the reason he likes Botswana is because the president changed privacy laws so he couldn’t be photographed without permission the right of a free press is part of a democracy the fact he made sure there was a special law for him makes a mockery of it

      1. Agreed.

Meghan has become his best and most effective press agent. But Harry is still the same old Harry behind the fairy tale.

    1. Hi Cookie, I read that too and wondered why? Maybe she wants to focus more on UK based charities, as she said in the interview, ones that already due the work she’s interested in. I can see from her perspective that making it known that she wants to focus on UK based charities and communities might go along way in helping the British people feel more comfortable with her. Also, just because she’s giving them up now doesn’t mean she can’t revisit her work with them in the future, once she’s gotten a bit more time and royal experience under her belt.

Does anyone know, do any of the BRF work with the UN?

    2. Jenna, nice, optimistic tone. Can’t you just wish them the best? Why be so cynical? You sound like you want them to fail.

      1. It’s an opinion, Leah. You don’t have to like it, and Jenna doesn’t have to change it to make others feel better. Just scroll on by.

      2. Are you talking to me, Leah? How in the hell can my post come across as cynical or wishing they would fail? I asked a simple question and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. You are the one reading into things. All I did was ask a question.
Please do not respond directly to me again, Leah. Thank you.

      3. Why so cynical? Because the young royals are the opposite of impressive to me. They’re lazy, do nothing whiners who don’t appreciate all they’ve been given. Meghan with her “I didn’t know anything about him when we met” seems disingenuous and fake. So yes, I’m cynical. Maybe I’ll be wrong. Or maybe she’s a C list actress who has found a way to get A list recognition.

        1. Cookie, I hope you see this-I was not addressing you-I was talking to Jenna and I sincerely sorry for the mixup

        2. She knew who he was months before they got together she did a quiz with e news I believe when they asked her to pick between Harry and will she also spent time with friends in Britain he’s always splashed over magazines your right Jenna they are whiners a the fact he decided to marry a celebrity good luck to him the next time they complain about privacy he should probably make sure she stops leaking to her friend lainey gossip and her friends husband at e news

          1. She literally stumbled over the William and Harry question, and said “idk …Harry” and shrugged her shoulders after the question before moving on.

Lainey is not friends with Meghan, they just share mutual friends which mean she will get hand-me-down information.

And yes she is friends with the Mulroney’ s but why are you under the impression that the husband is blathering just b/c he works in entertainment, his whole family comes from politics.

Just admit that you’re dislike of Meghan has blinded you to things, b/c most people are (should be) aware that the word “sources” used in journalism can be a made up one and the statements from those sources can just be filled with rumor/gossip or completely false and that no matter the wrong information put out or how it may come across for another person, the word “sources” helps protect that publishing.

But we’re talking logic here and I can see you were trying to grasp at straws.

    3. It’s opportunistic, like I said.
That’s what disappoints me.I didn’t trust Meghan with her charities.
Someone who does something out of his heart doesn’t give up his/her charities like that.
I hope she cares for her new ones.

      1. I am honestly curious and just came on this board to ask people how they felt. I can understand if a position with the UN is considered too controversial for whatever reason. But what about that clean water charity in Rwanda? Or the young girls in India who need sanitary products? Why did she give up all of them? Is it required of someone marrying into the family?

        1. Lovely, it’s not opportunistic. Meghan may not have had a choice. Esp the UN thing. That may be seen as too political. The BRF is not internation like that. The Swedish Royals, Dutch Royals, even the Jordanian royals work internationally with the UN. The BRF never really has.

        2. European royals are UN ambassadors queen maxima does a huge amount for fiance there nothing controversial about it Meghan wasn’t hugely involved with any charity or organization it just the press and fans that made out she was

        3. Her UN work was about gender equality. I’d think that would be great work to continue. I think almost all of the other royal ladies have positions in the UN except the BRF. Victoria has the sea iniative, max does something with financial inclusion. Leti does healthy eating. I think Charlene does something sports related.
So why not continue working with them? I don’t actually know how much work she did besides give a speech but I’d rather she continue gender equality than get mixed into the royal foundation

      2. She’ll be joining royal approved charities, that’s all. She isn’t giving up a life of philanthropy all together. They already announced she’s going to be a patron of the Duke & Duchess and Prince Harry Foundation.

        1. Actually, Richard Palmer said she would give up those affliations, but hoped to continue in the same vein of work she had been doing.

      3. Cookie, I said Jenna. That is who I meant. I was not talking to you. Sorry for the mixup. I clearly wrote Jenna’s name.

    4. Hi Cookie, i suspect that’s due to her charity being affliated with the UN and the BRF do not work with the UN on the ground that it is a political organisation.

BRF do not do anything that might be seen as political even if it’s mildly so. They have to tread a very careful line that keeps them politically neutral and above it all.

MM has declared an intention to champion women’s rights, so she has to figure out how to do that without being political.

Btw, did y’all notice that her engagement announcement called her MS Meghan Markle rather than MISS Meghan Markle? She pinned her feminist flag to that royal pole from the outset!!!

      1. Hi Herazeus- but is all of her charity work connected to the UN? Even bringing clean water to children in Rwanda or that one week long trip thing she did in India? I thought that clean water charity was a stand alone thing.

          1. Looks like worldvision is a UK charity not affliated to the UN. It would have to be vetted to make sure it wasn’t affiliated to any political movements here or abroad. Assuming it is clean and cleared, the charity would have to write to her to ask for her patronage. It’s the only way she can continue with it.

She could always join Save the children, but Anne patrons that charity.

      2. It’s proper etiquette, at least in the United States, to refer to a divorced woman who uses her maiden name as Ms. and not Miss. Is this not done in the UK?

        1. Yeah. Can’t see some feminist joining this family. lol She pretty much gave up her feminist flag marrying a man for his status and money as far as I’m concerned, but I’m happy to be wrong if she does good things say, with Camilla, for women’s organizations such as sexual assault charities, domestic violence charities. But I have a feeling Meghan will keep things as light and fluffy as Kate does.

        2. Hi Matilda, i didn’t know that about the USA. In the UK, you remain Mrs X on divorce unless you specifically change your name back to your maiden name. Ms is very much taken to mean a woman who doesn’t want to be referred to by her marital status whether that be single, married or divorced. It is seen as feminist signalling.

    1. MMR, why on this board, does it give the exact time of the comments when people make them, whereas on KMR, it says 24 hours, 23 hours or a day ago? Is that a blip?

    2. which means she will be doing boring charities. I really hope she takes the Camilla route and deals with sex trafficking, etc. charites that really can do something.

    3. Cookie, I am so sorry again. I tried to reply under Jenna’s comment, but it didn’t work out that way. Again, sorry for the hard feelings.

      1. Leah, you may be having the same trouble I was having earlier. On KMR, the “reply” button is clearly at the end of the comment. But here on MMR, the “reply” button appears to be at the end of a comment, but is actually in-line with the commentor’s name. So if you “reply” to the button at the end of a comment on MMR, you are actually replying to the comment below the one you wish to respond to. Ugh. I’m sorry I can’t explain this more clearly, but I’ve been wondering why my comments on MMR were never in the right place.

  39. I think because the BRF might not want the UN association and maybe Meghan wants to start anew or it could be because she will be linked up with that awful Foundation of Keeness.

    1. Meghan is being added on to the Foundation, they said.

      Absolutely ridiculous.

So they’ll both be at William’s beck and call, of course, with his staff and his people. No independence. What a shame. I doubt they’ll work much then and their people are incompetent tools.

      1. I was hoping Harry would use his marriage to break away from William and his childish way of managing business, but alas, it is not to be. William’s PR/managers are unprofessional and make the younger royals look bad. And Harry will drag his new wife into this mess. So much for hoping they will work more.

  40. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised that the royal family is paying for the wedding. Maybe they’ve taken the pulse of things and figured with BP renovations and everything else it would be too much to ask taxpayers to foot this bill as well. Whatever the reason, I think it’s a smart move and now they can do whatever they like and I’ll try not to bemoan too much if it isn’t televised

    1. Hi Sarah, I think the royal family pays for all the weddings, expecting security and those costs can really add up. Since they didn’t mention paying for the dress I wonder if Meghan is going to pay for the dress herself? It would certainly ensure that she could select the designer and style. Oh, I can’t wait to start talking about tiara choices!!

      1. I thought for William’s and Kate’s they said the ambiguous they would pay their share comment. Considering I find all their financial dealings shady, I wonder what that actually broke down to. And considering the security cost was probs off the chart, did the kick in to help offset all the OT that probably accrued?
I figure Meghan would be buying her own dress but what do I know?!
        Yay tiaras

        1. As I recall, the Middleton’s paid for the dress and maybe part of the flowers. It was considered very unusual for the bride’s family to kick toward any part of the royal wedding because seriously how many bride’s families have that kind of money?

  41. I thought this was a lovely interview and with everything going on in the world I am going to believe in the magic of Harry and Meghan’s relationship story, until I cannot ( which I kind of hope does not happen). I do believe that they knew early on in their relationship that it would lead to marriage. Sometimes it just happens quickly. Also just read MM is intending to become a British citizen after the wedding with dual citizenship and that although she is not a practicing Catholic she will be baptized into the C of E before the wedding.
I would love to see her become involved in issues like racism and bigotry, maybe by way of presenting it as “all-inclusiveness” so it does not appear too political.
Last thought, MM is so much more articulate than her sister-in-law to be, maybe this will inspire Kate to become a better speaker.

    1. Just a note – Meghan attended Catholic school, but I don’t think she was ever a Catholic. Her parents are both Protestant (Episcopalian, I think).

      1. LizB Meghan’s ex husband is Jewish and they had a Jewish wedding ceremony. At one time the media reported her father was Jewish but who really knows?

      2. Whatever her religion (practicing or non-practicing), she will be baptized into the C of E.

      3. Nothing short of a miracle would help Waity improve as a speaker. Nothing. She is beyond all hope.

    2. Why is she getting baptized? I am cynical about it as I was with Kate’s Confirmation. Meghan doesn’t have to do it, so it’s all for show as I highly doubt she suddenly found God or whatever. If she was baptized Catholic it is a valid baptism and she doesn’t’ need to be re-baptized for any reason!

  42. If it is true that Meghan needs to give up her work with the U.N., I can understand that, as she will be a member of the BRF that is a universe unto itself and Great Britain.. In time, I do not see why she could not resume her connection with Rwanda or any other African countries , the only difference is, is that it would be something that would be under the branding of the BRF of Great Britain, if that makes sense. She would need to “keep it in the family”.

    1. Perhaps they could finally help the people of the UK instead of doing photo ops how about they leave Rwanda and other African countries to africa corgign interference does more harm in the long and finally help with the british people using food banks the disabled the government are screwing over the poor in substandard housing or the homeless the sky rocketing suicide statistics and the 3 million kid living in poverty although that won’t make them international humanitarians

        1. He was also born in america whats your point they are countries of former ancestors not race you dont pass them on

      1. I’m waiting for a concerted effort to help alleviate suffering in the UK and support the UK, which means visiting not just preaching from on high. Until I see that I’m going to remain skeptical about their earnestness.

BTW, when was the last time Harry visited AIDS sufferers?

        1. To my knowlege he hasnt his idea of awareness was a hiv test with rihanna havent heard anything since as for alleviate suffering for the poor they just do a couple of speeches and leave the hardwork for the pheasents like when they showed up at grenfell tower for a photo op donated a couple of thousand pounds despite the fact him and his brother are worth more than 30 million then went back to there palaces celebrities did more than them adele raises loads of money at her concerts visited the fireman and spent time and organized treats for the children harry showed up shakes some hands and put on a sad face

        2. Recently. At least the HIV/AIDS thing is something Harry has kept on with for awhile. I’ve also read he visits privately a lot and unlike Diana doesn’t make a big fuss of it (she’d call paparazzi to come make sure they saw her at these ‘private visits’!).

I find it interesting Meghan is jumping into work. Is it sincere or is it just to placate people? We’ll see how she does Friday. Probably very well. Reminds me of Kate’s first official engagement and how awkward she was from the first day.

  43. MMR, please wright a post about tiaras! I can not wait to talk about the choises. Meghan said she already met family members from Diana side. It would be Nice if she wears The Spencer Tiara before Kate ever does, since Kate already have worn some of Dianas famous jewells.

      1. But I don’t think that Kate or Meghan are eligible to wear that tiara. I thought only Spencer’s women could?

My guess would be the Strathmore Rose tiara if they can mend it or maybe Charles will buy Meghan one. He has excellent taste in jewels and Sarah Ferguson got a brand new tiara for her wedding.

          1. The one Maxima is wearing would match Meghan’s ring really well. The Strathmore Rose tiara is one of my favorite from the Queen Mother’s youth and I wish to see it again.

    1. Harry handed out Aids testing kits a few weeks ago and I believe on Friday, he and Meghan are going to visit an AIDS charity.

    2. The Spencer tiara is out of the Question. Only Spencer wives and daughters can wear that one because it is a Spencer family tiara.

MM (soon) and Kate are married to Mountbatten- Windsors so their tiara options are limited to those in that family, assuming they aren’t on loan to other family members.

Diana could use the Spencer tiara because she was a Spencer daughter.

Or HM could do what she did for Fergie and purchase a new tiara for her.

  44. I am having a hard time replying directly to people up thread…
So you guys think they may live in a Commonwealth country like Canada or Australia? If so, my bet would be on Canada. But what would British taxpayers think of that? I’m an American so I’m not sure how that would work. Would it be extra money to set up security in Canada versus the UK? Herazeus?

Also, wouldn’t they have more control over the press in the UK?

    1. If they did that he would have to give up his title there no way the british taxpayers would be ok with it we pay for there living cost and sercurity not the commonwealth as for controlling the press we live in a democracy they dont to dictate when they want the press and they dont they should just suck it up if they spend as much time using the press coverage for charity work as they did trying to bugger of on holiday every five minutes they would have anything to bitch about they should also stop using there mothers death she used to call the press all the time she even gave the royal phonebook to reporters who hacked phones then had the nerve to complain about privacy it you want the perks the press come with it

      1. Cookie, Harry would have more control over the press in Botswana as he drove laws to protect his privacy there. Can’t see other countries being so accommodating. The cost of security when the royals are overseas falls to the host countries; can’t see that being approved in these times – voters will punish a government diverting resources away from the people and towards people who are filling in time.

My guess is that Harry will continue his pattern since leaving the army: a clutch of domestic appearances (PR photo shoots) together with considerable time overseas doing some work that is not able to be scrutinised too closely (again, controlled PR photo shoots), plus a lot of down time under the radar. He hasn’t stepped up since leaving the army. The palace PR juggernaut protects him (and WK) like armour, so ‘the role’ he spoke of in his interview yesterday cannot be closely discerned for content, commitment or outcomes. He and WK have hit upon the Heads Together model as ‘royal work’ and that seems to be their preferred way of dealing with duty.

        1. Jen,

I’m waiting for another of his ‘habitat for humanity’ moments where he buggered off to exotic Nepal to ‘help’ rebuild a school for six whole days.

          1. Maven, I’m wondering what patronages Meghan officially held and why she had to give them up.
I do think WKH’s ‘work’ is one gigantic piss-take at the expense (literally) of taxpayers, the gullible and those staunchly establishment types. Can you imagine the conversations taking place behind closed doors…

          2. Jen,

Meghan shut down her blogs.Who knows about her supposedly feminist bent? The fact that she shut down what is so important to her is a tell, IMO.

ITA that Heads Together and the Foundation of Keenness is a total pisstake and contemptuous of humanity. They will welcome Meghan with open arms. Kinda like vampires.

            I

    2. Living overseas is out of the question; they complain about costs of security whenever the royals visit Canada now. Prince Charles actually wanted to establish a formal residence in Australia in the 70’s (I believe) and live there part of the year doing engagements but the Australian government nixed it because of… costs.*

*ETA – it wasn’t over cost, but I still think it’s out of the question.
The place of Charles in the Australian consciousness had been muddied long before. As prime minister Malcolm Fraser raised the prospect of appointing Charles governor general – a position that, thanks to the dismissal of 11 November 1975, was already redolent with the scent of royal interference. Charles had apparently liked the idea of donning training wheels for the kingdom amid the kangaroos of Yarralumla by the lake. But public reaction was tepid and Fraser, too, cooled on the idea. Then in 1983 – rekindling the anti-royal sentiment stirred by the dismissal – Bob Hawke, in his first term as prime minister, announced Australia ought become a republic by 1988. (Then again, a few years later he also said no child would live in poverty by 1990.)
      https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/nov/09/long-to-reign-over-aus-prince-charles-and-australia-go-way-back

      1. Jessica-
Didnt Charles want to be attorney general in Australia and people thought it was too political? I can’t remember. But I seriously doubt Harry would take a political role. If anything Meghan seems more interested in politics than Harry.

Oops I was just replying to you as you updated your post! LOL. So it was governor general, not attorney general. My bad!

        1. I think it would be fascinating if they stayed overseas for a few months but people always complain about the costs of travel and security.

          1. And why should they not? The royals travel at a whim or make stuff up and fudge the books. And all of it *costs* taxpayers.

      2. Further, Jessica, there are questions about the Queen’s role in the dismissal of the Whitlam government and all that surrounded it, known as the ‘palace letters’. To overseas readers: the dismissing of a democratically elected government. The Queen has embargoed these letters until 2027, and even beyond – clearly after her lifetime. There is currently a case in front of the Australian courts to have these letters released:
        http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-31/gough-whitlam-son-leads-legal-bid-to-release-palace-papers/8759504

        1. Yeah, I’m not getting a sincere vibe from her maj. I wish we would all leave our gullibility at the door. The British royals are in it for themselves. And the more filthy lucre the better.

          1. The Dismissal is a dirty stain on Australia’s history and the last piece in the puzzle are these ‘Palace Letters’, detailing the machinations about dismissing a legitimately elected government and the Queen’s prior knowledge of it. It is foolish for people to believe monarchy is above political interference. As you say, they act in self-interest all the time.

    1. Why not? As long as they’re no longer supported by the taxpayers, anywhere. It’s not like he’s been pulling his weight in the UK. Harry could actually get a job.

      1. He wouldnt be able to substane his life luxery life style he would be broke within 3 years theres no way he would give up his privalige

      2. Harry could never really work, though. Not with all his security and let’s admit it petulant behavior just like his brother. What would he qualify to do? Nothing besides helicopters (and at least unlike William he went through the proper channels, was incredibly skilled and good at what he did and kept up his flight hours!).

They’ll just be W&K’s punching bags eventually, judging by how they will not have a separate establishment.

      3. Maven, Harry, William and Kate already do more appearances outside the UK than in their own country. They can rack up bigger numbers with tours. Is anyone complaining? The HT thing has given them a model of chanting slogans and taking credit for others’ work, and giving the impression of being active. They’ll get away with it as long as Brits don’t look closely and think critically about what they want from their royal family.

        1. Oh man, Jen. Don’t bring the reality. No one is complaining and that is the crux of everything.

They indeed, can rack up bigger numbers with tours. And Harry seems gung ho for it. Does anyone actually believe he and his precious one haven’t drunk the kool-aid? The Foundation of Keenness is their cover..

Y’all, think holi-tours. I’m not seeing Harry breaking away to be his own man any time soon.

          1. Yep, lots of holi-tours.

I found it ironic/ amusing that in the interview Harry was insistent that choosing a partner who could do the royal role was vital when he does so little himself. Really, Harry? You expect us to believe that?

          2. As almost always, agreed, Jen.

Harry used the buzzword, “team”. Big clang for me. Is that a daddy buzzword or just a general BRF buzzword?

So is the dream, a big clang. Which is all that Harry offers, IMO. Waiting to see Meghan’s response over time.

Like Willy, Harry projected the worry of taking on the job. So, yeah, Harry, what job is that? Because you’re not doing it.

  45. I posted this question on KMR, but want to ask here, too. I’m not an expert on the inner workings of the British Royal Family, but was shocked to read that the Queen may not attend the wedding, just the reception, because Meghan is divorced. The article also mentioned that HM did not attend Charles and Camilla’s wedding ceremony, just the reception — same reason.

Is that true, do you think?

Also, how many think Meghan will go the whole traditional bridal route? Gown, veil, tiara, etc.
Or, will her ensemble be less formal? I hope she goes the entire way. And, I hope HM attends the wedding and the reception. Wish we could, too!

    1. She will be there.

HMTQ didn’t go to the wedding itself because it was a civil ceremony and because the Diana fanatics were out in full force having meltdowns about it. I remember reading about it at the time and the hysteria from certain quarters was really weird!!! It was quite an odd time. It has nothing to do with the divorce, but more to do with Charles and Camilla and them being the evil masterminds of Diana’s misery and all that. HM was protecting herself by not attending. She did attend the blessing, which was basically a low-key church wedding, however. People seem to forget they had that, not just the civil ceremony at the Guildhall.

I can see Meghan in some big formal thing but not as froufrou or hopefully not as hideous as Kate’s. I think she’ll do a tiara. Why not? You’re marrying a prince. Go all out.

    2. What Ellie Said.

The Diana fanatics made it i possible for HM to attend the civil ceremony. The whole thing had to be massaged such that she was there, but didn’t appear to be there and that is the version that has stuck in the public consciousness.

Not only did she attend the church blessing at St George’s chapel; She also hosted the wedding reception at Windsor castle.

      1. I was curious if I was right or not, but I do remember it playing out that way!

Even my mom had opinions on it, but she subscribes to the ‘Charles is a devil and William is Diana’s saintly son’ rhetoric. Though she called me yesterday to ask what I thought about Meghan and Harry, and she goes, “She is WAY too good for that boy!!”

        1. I think your mum is right! Meghan appears to be bright and energised; Harry not so much. I do hope they will carve their own role independent of the Royal Foundation which seems to be cover/ photo ops in lieu of actually getting stuck into anything substantial.

          1. Agreed, Jen and Ellie.

“Meghan appears to be bright and energised; Harry not so much.”

            Jen,

Harry has been adrift since he got ditched from the military. We have opined that Harry really needs structure to blossom.

So I think, along comes Meghan who can provide that structure (he does seem to think the world of her). What remains to be seen is how much influence she has on him and how much she will strive for their independence from the grips of his brother and his courtiers.

  46. I had to comment here because this made me laugh. Kate made a comment about being so happy at her engagement today. Well, it was rehearsed and planned! Wow. She can’t even make a spontaneous statement about her brother-in-law’s engagement?!

Rebecca English: “It was what we call a pre-arranged ‘doorstep’. I know what people mean about the lack of emotion, but she doesn’t normally do them, so was probably quite nervous, to be fair.”

    1. Hi, Ellie, I think she has such a fear of any kind of public speaking — even simple sentences — that Kate must rehearse everything. The DM was loaded with tons of photos of Kate doing artwork with children during a visit today. Some of her facial expressions were over the top. However, she has been so much more engaged during her visits of late. She must be already trying to keep pace with her popular future sister-in-law. Also, I did read on DM that HM will be at the wedding. Glad about that. Still wondering about Meghan’s wedding attire. Gown, or no gown. Please, a gown! A tiara!

      1. I think she’s engaged and working to a) make up her visits, since these people plan so much and put so much effort when a royal visits and b) keep herself on the front pages! Herazeus pointed out on KMR once how the Middleton gals always know how to smile and make faces for the camera. It’s all about their image. Let’s smile all the time and seem like we’re having the time of our lives! In video it always looks a bit better and less insane, then you catch how bored she is and how much she doesn’t want to be there imo.

Meghan’s first wedding was so low key I can’t imagine her not going royal princess for this. As I’m a bit of a cynic about it I do think Harry’s appeal is the fact he is a PRINCE, so why wouldn’t she go and dress all princessy!

      2. Waity is nothing more than a Stepford Wife robot. She has no thoughts of her own and to be honest, I don’t think she can form an independent thought. Carole did a bang up job of raising an automaton.

Also, Waity has been a royal-not what I would call a working one-for 6 years now and she still gets nervous re public speaking? By God get over it and do your job and be professional. What a godawful waste.

      3. There are far too many years under Kate’s belt to be given latitude about being nervous by a door-stop. However, she is what she is. I thought her body language was interesting, she was actually shaking her head ‘no’ as she was speaking. I wonder if her accent modification over the years has altered her whole natural social communication abilities.

    2. I don’t see how the comment being pre-arranged is a problem. She knew she would be asked that question, so she/her team prepared. I’m sure both Charles and Camilla did, too, for when they were asked that question. In my opinion, Kate preparing here is a good thing. We want her to prepare for stuff. She should be preparing for other stuff, like speeches, too. I wish she’d prepare a statement on the engagement to say during every engagement.

      1. MMR,

I guess the disappointment and cynicism comes from the fact that it has to be pre-arranged. There’s no spontaneity. What does that say about Kate and the BRF? It’s all media manipulation because what matters is the facade rather than a genuine human reaction.

Meanwhile, here’s Charles’ reactions to WK’s engagement and HM’s respectively:

WK: Charles said that he was “thrilled, obviously”, and joked: “They have been practising long enough … it makes me feel very old.”

HM: Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, told reporters he was “thrilled” with the engagement.

“They’ll be very happy indeed,” he said.

Seems rather spontaneous (and telling) to me.

        1. I just find it weird Kate is that inept she cannot say anything spontaneous about…anything. It just goes to show they don’t trust her, I guess, considering the gems that have come out of her mouth in the last six years! It’s just weird she won’t prep for an engagement but she’ll memorize a statement like t hat when it’s easy to talk about.

          1. Ellie,

All she cares about is being taken care of. And the BRF delivers. And then she delivers in an anemic way. It’s a win-win. Clearly expectations are down with the bottom feeders.

  47. Harry has done engagements almost daily since September. Not sure where this narrative has emerged that he hasn’t stepped up…both him and William have significantly increased their duties this fall beyond even the usual year end push.

And Harry just attended several Aids events in London around testing.

  48. A little late. I wondered is there a reason they said that Prince Charles had been introduced to Meghan and not Meghan introduced to Prince Charles?
