Harry & Meghan visit Canada House

Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex have returned from their 8 week break in Canada and are back in the UK and doing appearances. Today, January 7, Harry and Meghan visited Canada House in London.

Interestingly, this visit was not listed in the Court Circular. Neither was their stop at The Hubb kitchen Grenfell, which they visited prior to visiting Canada House (no photos from that visit, though).

Weird that they didn’t list this very public event in the CC, but also not weird considering the press release about this visit said Harry and Meghan wanted to meet with the High Commissioner and staff “to thank them for the warm Canadian hospitality and support they received during their recent stay in Canada.” Considering the vacation was private, it makes sense that this “thank you” visit would also be private (but then why is it so public? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Whatever).

Upon arrival, Harry and Meghan met with the High Commissioner, Janice Charette. Charette spoke with the press about Harry and Meghan:

The High Commissioner described the royal couple’s visit as a “chance to catch up, hear a bit about their visit to Canada and their holidays in Canada, and their impressions.”

She added that she discussed with them “what they see in terms of their priorities for the next year,” pointing out: “There’s a lot of areas where they have interests which are also priorities for Canada.” Citing topics such as gender equality and gender empowerment, homelessness, mental health and youth engagement, Charette said she thought there “will be some opportunities for us to think about Canada House and the Sussexes doing some interesting work together.”

She also spoke about the couple’s down time over their break. “The fact that they were able to go to Canada to enjoy the holiday season with friends and family and basically to have privacy and be undisturbed and to be able to enjoy peace and tranquility and the beautiful country, I couldn’t be happier,” she said.

Afterward, Harry and Meghan viewed an exhibition by Indigenous Canadian artist Skawennatti called Avatars Aliens Ancestors which “presents a selection of the characters that populate Skawennati’s artistic universe. In addition to her own regalia-rocking avatar (who she has named “xox”), you will see a circle of elders from Skyworld, the planet our ancestors are said to have come from, and, in the TimeTraveller™ Portraits, a range of Indigenous people from the 15th to the 23rd century.”

Meghan wore many shades of brown for her first appearance of 2020, opting for a new Reiss “Sabel” coat (£345), new Massimo Dutti “Plain Silk Wool Sweater” ($69.90) and “Satin Midi Skirt” ($130.00), and her Jimmy Choo velvet pumps.

While all the brown is pretty boring, I actually like the outfit overall. I enjoy the combo of sweater and satin skirt, but I think if she had worn a high pony it would have pulled the outfit together.

Meghan paired her brown outfit with gold jewelry, wearing a new pair of Catherine Zoraida Swallow Stud earrings (£120.00) and a previously worn Kismet by Milka Full Circles bracelet ($700.00). Why is this tiny gold bracelet $700???

Also, lol at Meghan’s sweaty armpits. I feel you, girl.

Harry and Meghan addressed the staff at Canada House. Meghan’s statement begins at 2:14 in the video below. She says:

I will just say Happy New Year, and as my husband said, my goodness, it was just such an incredible time we were able to have there, and with our son too, and just to be able to take in the warmth that we experienced with the people, but also to walk around and to see just the beauty of Canada. To see Archie go *surprised expression* when we walked on a hike, and just see how stunning it is. So it’s meant a lot to us and it was important for us to start the year to be here and say thank you.
