Meghan visits women’s shelter in Vancouver (update)

The Duchess of Sussex visited the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre in Vancouver yesterday, January 14. *Update at end of post.*

The DEWC posted on their Facebook page the above image with the caption: “Look who we had tea with today! The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, visited us today to discuss issues affecting women in the community.” At time of posting, there is no other information on the visit, except that it happened.

The DEWC, which was founded in 1978, provides “a safe space for women and children in the Downtown Eastside. We provide practical support, basic necessities and hot nutritious meals to over 500 women and children every day. We support women to make positive changes in their lives by connecting them to a continuum of services including outreach, advocacy, wellness, recreation, housing and skills development.”

The DEWC posted the photo at close to 5pm PT/8pm ET, which was several hours after the Daily Mail ran photos of Meghan boarding a seaplane at Victoria Harbour Airport (the DEWC photo confirms she was boarding the plane to go to this meeting). The DM made a thing about there being “no sign of Archie”, but it makes sense Meghan wouldn’t bring Archie to a meeting. She presumably flew back right after, so she wasn’t gone long or anything.

UPDATE: Meghan also visited Justice For Girls on January 14. They said: “Yesterday, The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle visited to discuss climate justice for girls and the rights of Indigenous peoples. Was great to talk about the importance of a holistic approach to social justice, and the power of young women’s leadership.”
