Royal Rewind: Meghan’s Trooping the Color appearances

Trooping the Color is always a fun event in the royal calendar for me – I enjoy seeing the pomp and everyone gathered together; it’s also one of the only times of the year we get to see the wee royals in action. Perhaps this year would have been Archie’s balcony debut (even with Sussexit, they are still family, and The Queen likes her family around for Trooping). But this year’s Trooping will be a scaled down version at Windsor Castle with no extended family presence. Because of this, I want to take a look back at The Duchess of Sussex‘s past Trooping appearances.

2018

Trooping the Color 2018 was Meghan’s first year attending the event. Harry and Meghan traveled in a carriage with the Duke of Kent from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade and back again, before joining the other royals on the balcony for the flypast.

Meghan wore a bespoke Carolina Herrera outfit for her first Trooping, with an off-the-shoulder design and large, asymmetrical buttons. Meghan accessorized the outfit with a Philip Treacy hat, Carolina Herrera clutch, and two rings from Birks: Rose Gold and Diamond Snowflake Ring ($4,995.00), and Rose Gold and Diamond Bee Chic Ring ($3,200.00).

I think the hat is a bit flying saucer-y for my taste, and I dislike Millennial pink, but I think Meghan looked very pretty here – I really like the asymmetrical button placement.

2019

By the time Trooping rolled around in 2019, Archie was only about a month old, but Meghan made an appearance – her first since Archie’s birth. She and Harry rode in a carriage with Camilla and Kate; for the first balcony appearance (the one where they watch the Queen arrive back at BP), Meghan skipped to be with Archie, but Meghan and Harry joined the balcony scene with The Queen for the flypast.

Meghan went with a navy ensemble for 2019, opting for a bespoke dress and cape from Clare Waight Keller (who designed her wedding gown). While the cape is all navy, the dress features white cap sleeves as an accent. Meghan’s hat was a custom creation by Noel Stewart; and Meghan accessorized with a Givenchy clutch, navy gloves, and earrings. Meghan also debuted an eternity ring.

I don’t have too much to say about this outfit other than it’s fine. There weren’t a lot of good shots of Meghan from this event, unfortunately, so I couldn’t really get a good look at the outfit.

A good bit of this video is about Louis, but Meghan and Harry are visible in the second half of this.

Here’s hoping that next year we get a Trooping and balcony appearance, and maybe Archie can make his debut.

I’ve done a round up of Kate’s Trooping appearances over at KMR.
